I wouldn't mind having that either, yet for daily use I'll keep my newer trucks.

It would indeed be a great truck for on road use and you raise another point. There's no way that I would take it up a road where it might get scratched or dented... or stuck.

Different attitude towards things for sure... they often say Americans are always in too much of a hurry... it's the journey more than the destination.

Still remember hearing a American group complain about service and the waitress collected the menus saying McDonalds is down the street.

The locals showed me how it's done... relationships and drink money... that is what they do for just about any services... always a small tip or food item...

Feeding workers coming to your home is almost expected.

When I called for my final in Austria the head of the building department with chief inspectors show up... I was told I needed to have Bier, Bread and an assortment of coldcuts and some pastries for the road on hand..

I thought it was a joke but was informed otherwise...

Put out a nice spread with table cloth... had plans and permits laid out and process lasted about 3 hours... 45 minute tour/inspection and the rest really standing around chewing the fat.

The approved set of plans and all docs were designed and drawn by me... plus I did interior electric, etc...

It pays to get trusted advice as to how business is conducted locally

Your last statement pretty much sums it up. Different regions of the world have different cultures. Despite what they'd like you to believe, not everything we Americans do is the "wrong" way. Guess I'm set in my ways...probably wouldn't make a good world traveler.

If you don't like the states you wouldn't like Canada. Only place worse for customer service might be France or Germany. You could sit in an empty bar all day long with an empty glass as the waitress chats with the bartender.

I have found the french have a dislike of Americans and English, they will attend to french first and either leave you until last or just ignore you, the smaller towns and villages are better and more helpful.

Wow wouldn't I love to have this truck, looks like 16" tires, old trucks and tractors seem to remind me of the good old days....

You and me both! Looks like maybe a '58.
About 20 years ago this elderly fellow shows up at my business in a '49. He bought it new, garage kept, real low mileage because he used it if he had to carry a refrigerator, etc. home. Dark green, "school bus" bench seat.
Three on tree, 216 six. It wouldn't start. All it was is the adjustment bolt dropped out of generator bracket, belt was loose. I had a bolt, 5 minute fix. I push started it. Ran sweet. He said "I'm in my 80s now, don't need it...wanna buy it?". Stupid me said I have a truck so didn't need it.

You mean like this pic below, oh yeah a Sunday afternoon drive is great, in a 57 Chevy.... But for me a 4x4 pickup wouldn't be just to ride around town truck on a sun-shinny day, it would be used when needed where needed and after all the creature comforts are added. I dont want anything 4x4 that cant be used for winter driving.

All these 4x4 pics came from (LouNY) link with a good article about NAPCO>>> NAPCO 4x4 Pickup Trucks: The Forgotten 4x4.

"In the late ’40s and early ’50’s the name NAPCO really stood for something in the automotive world. But there is a good chance you have never heard of them before. If you had a four wheel drive truck back in those days it was most likely designed by NAPCO (Northwest Auto Parts Company). Founded in 1918 as a specialized mechanical parts shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Which if you have spent a winter in that part of the country you immediately understand how a shop like that could end up specializing in four wheel drive systems..........."

The article say 59 so your close.

216 is the smallest I heard of, must be a 40s only motor............... I have to join your stupid me club, 40 years ago I had almost the same offer on a 1 ton late 1940s, same stile as that pickup just bigger with flat bed and duel rear wheels and was in good shape, the guy wanted only $800.00, he tried to talk me into it seeing how he was up in years and in poor health, gee just make me that offer again now and see what happens, in a NY min!!!!!!!!!

I have a lot of "Wish I had dunnit" stories, but none as sad as yours.

My father had a '53 GMC for a while... he always wanted an old truck and finally went out and bought one. He ran it for a few years but didn't have time to keep it up the way it should, so eventually sold it.
