Wow! I haven't had to take the DL test since I moved from Texas to Ohio (1977). Even then it was just a driving test. I didn't have to take the MC test but I carried it forward. When I moved back to Texas (1996), I just had to pay up and turn over my Ohio license. I think they issued my original number because it seemed like a low number. I still have my MC endorsement. I've had that since 1971. When I renew next year, I'm pretty sure I'll have to take the eye test but that's it.

You must have received a lot of tickets. :D

I don't recall how old I was before I got my license. Back then just walk in the door and buy the lic. No training or testing required.

How far back was that? Texas didn't even require a driver's license until the mid 30's. 1936 I think. Each county issued licenses so there could be duplicate numbers state wide. I think the first license plate number was issued in 1907. Also by county. And, you had to make your own plate using the assigned number. The state didn't issue plates until 1917. Seems funny you could drive a car without a driver's license but the car had to have one. :confused3:

Twice in recent years I've gotten barely passing scores on the DL renewal test. Got every question right except ... I failed every question asking the $ amount of traffic fines.

I never thought to study that part of new traffic laws.

I know that you aren't the person who would know, but why would that be germaine to your driving ability? Not knowing just means that you aren't experienced with that part of the driving experience.

In my time (mid 70s) every 15 year boy, soon to be 16, knew the testing times and schedule for every state trooper office within 50 miles. Freedom baby :D
25 questions or so and drive the trooper around the neighborhood for maybe 10 minutes.

When I got my motorcycle endorsement a couple of years later I asked the trooper if he was going to ride on back for the driving part. A big NO. Just circle the parking lot he said.

Drivers tests in Arkansas don't discuss fines. They test on rules of the road and driving.

The only test for a renewal is the eye exam

Likewise in my state. I've kept my MC endorsement even though I haven't had a bike in 30 years...just in case I want to get one again. It's only an extra $5 per renewal (4 years).

Same here. I gave up riding 12 years ago but kept the endorsement

I haven't been on two wheels since 1990, yet still have the endorsement. That doesn't mean that I"m competent to ride though, if I ever got another bike I would take a DD course for motorcycles first.
