Grapple Design Ideas

Here is a link to a thread about a grapple we built.

We liked the looks of the Anbo grapple, but wanted ours lighter and less expensive. We had most of the straight metal in stock and cut the rest out with a torch.

We started out with a 1" pin on about a 5" span, without a bushing, but the 1" pins bent. We then took a sucker rod coupling and drilled it out to 1". This did not take all the threads out and was very easy to drill. Installed grease zerts & welded this onto either side of our 3/4" hinge for the pivot, so it was nearly the full 5" wide. We have used it extensively and it still amazes me, the amount of work it will do.

If you are looking at the pictures, you will notice, the outside arms of the grapple look about 1-1/2" wide. They are hollow inside. We used 2 pcs of 1/4" plate, separated them about 13/16" and welded 1-1/2x1/4" flat bar around them.

Keep in mind, this is on a smaller tractor than yours. Mine is a L4610.
