I have finally decided on grapple for my TC40DAss. Now, what and how do I hook up the hyd. I have been on the W.L.Long web site and see they have a true electronic rocker switch that goes over the joy stick. But, do I then lose my high and low range buttons on the joy stick? Does New Holland have their own product I should use? Any help would be appriciated.
The grapple has two arms, but only two hoses off the unit.
Thanks!

You don't have to use the WR Long joystick knob but you will have to figure out how you plan on activating the valve. I believe PineRidge used a blank spot on his TC's joystick. If you do some searching or go to his website I think you will find a complete description of how he added the switch to the joystick.

Yes I did find it. He put another hole in the joy stick cap along with the fast and slow buttons. He was kind enough to respond to a PM, but as I understand the way his works it diverts the hyd from the curl function to the grapple function, which is different from the rocker switch set up which allows both to work at the same time.

It's different because he used a diverter instead of a third function valve. Your question was specifically aimed at how to mount a switch. You should be able to adapt something like he did only for a rocker switch.

First thing to decide is if you want the grapple control on the FEL lever, which you seem to have done.

I didn't especially want it there, so I have mine controlled by the lever that also can run the rear remotes. I have T's in the lines to the rear remotes so the valve actually pressurizes both the rear remotes and grapple simultaneously. I don't have anything plugged in at the rear and run the grapple with that valve. I don't anticipate ever needing to use both simultaneously, the control for the valve is handy enough, and it all works with no problem.

I think I have answered my question. I have ordered the 3rd function valve and controller for the New Holland. It comes with joy stick that replaces the one on the tractor. It comes with two rocker switches, one for the high low speed control and one for the 3rd valve control.

Slippy, do you mind if I ask how pricey it was. I'd like to do that.

No, I don't mind. But, can't tell you exact price becasue I ordered two of them, one for my Mahindra 6000 and other for the TC40Da. If you call R.W.Long, they will tell you the price. I know the total is about $1200 and that includes the QA kit that mounts to the front of the loader so you can disconnect the grapple real easy. The NH valve kit was a little more than the one for the Mahindra becasue it has two rocker switches. Short answer, $600+.

The going rate for a WR Long third function valve kit is around $520 plus shipping to your local WR Long dealer. It includes hoses, valve, mounting plate for your specific tractor and joystick knob with built-in switch.

Yes, but if you add the QA kit for about another $52 you will be $600+.

Is the WR Long install one a novice can tackle??

Yes. You bolt the bracket that holds the eletric solenoid onto the loader valve tower, disconnect a couple of hoses and reconnect them back up, and wire the button. It comes with good instructions. Figuring out where to tap into 12v for the solenoid and routing hoses will take the most time. Figure 30-60 minutes max for a basic installation. A real no brainer.

DA TEACHER, you T'd off the lines between the rear remote control valve and the actual hose connections that valve runs??

I didn't do the work, but had the dealer do it as part of the purchase. The valve that runs the rear remotes also runs the grapple. There is a T in each line to/from the rear remotes that carries fluid to/from the grapple. If I had something hooked to the rear remotes and also had the grapple mounted, both would work at the same time.

I have Quick Connects for the grapple lines right next to the ones for the loader and bucket in front of my right foot. I have another set of QCs for the grapple only on the crossmember behind the QA plates for the bucket. I can take the grapple off, leaving the bucket on, or take both off at the same time. I can drop the loader with grapple connected or disconnected.

With the grapple off, the same lever that runs the grapple will operate the rears remotes or and/or whatever I might want to attach to the front QCs, maybe a cylinder to angle a snow blade or something.

It may not be quite as fast to use as an electrohydraulic button on the joystick, but it works just fine for me. The entire rig -- valve, rear remotes, "mid-mounted remotes", front remotes, and grapple was installed by the dealer and folded into the A plan price of the tractor. I can't give you an exact cost but I would guess around $750 give or take $100, about a year ago.

Ok, I think I got it. Would it be possible for you to post a few pictures of this set-up? Thanks.

Attached is a picture of my loader. When I bought it, it had 1/2 hoses and the connectors seen in the picture. They appear bigger than anything I have used. The other end of the hoses have 90 degree elbows that are set up to hook into my rear set of hyd. I think the person who had it before my used some kind of front blade. How do I get it changed over so it will work with my grapple?

So those 2 connectors have hoses that run back to fittings that are then connected to a rear remote?

That being the case, you simply connect the fittings to the rear remote and use the lever that controls the rear remote to control the grapple.

Well, yes. In the picture it is hard to follow, but the hoses run up the loader arm on the left as you are looking at it, I then have it doubled back to the front of the loader for storage. What you can't see are the ends which, yes, go back to the rear hyd which are controlled by the remote. So yes, if I just want to operate it by the remote, it would work. But, my question is about the bracket on the loader that holds those two fittings. They are larger than anything I have used and the hose size says 1/2 inch. As posted above, it appears the 1/4 inch should be used. So, can I use the 1/2 inch hose, and can I use these fittings, switch them out, what do I do?

I think you will find that 1/2" hoses are way, way too large for your grapple application. Feathering the grapple will probably be difficult at best. All I can say is try it and if it moves too fast then go to a smaller hose diameter or put restrictors in the lines. I know for a fact that 1/4" works great and 3/8" is fast.
