The CTL isn’t an effective replacement for a compact tractor. It cost twice as much and destroys the ground it runs on. If you can live with those short comings it’s an amazing tool. It makes a tractor loader look like an actual tinker toy tractor. It’s a last years model so it’s not pre emissions. It’s around 90 hp so DEF is required.

I finally got the opportunity to run one, though it was wasn't really a CTL as it was wheeled. The hydraulic power is what really makes these things WORK. And, the strength of the machine's body makes you feel like even if something bad were to happen around you you're going to come out alive! The one I rented was used to augur post holes and for that work there isn't anything that can touch it: being able to reverse a 12" augur buried over 3' in heavy clay is something to really appreciate! This and the excavators I run always make me smile when I get back on my tractor(s)- I prefer sitting up on a wheeled vehicle (not as productive, but the view is nice, and I can get around much faster). If I had lots of money I'd for sure have a CTL.

I like the visibility of the tractor and how little ground disturbance is caused in dry conditions. The visibility around you that is. Skid steers have unmatched bucket visibility. The skid steers and mini excavators are brutal on the ground unless you’re driving in a straight line.

A lot. But before you throw rocks go check what a new wheel loader cost. And it’s not a apples to apples comparison.

Are you asking about a CUT, Compact Utility Tractor?

Late to this thread....
Grapples are certainly worth their weight in gold.
I have a Titan Rock grapple ( about the same as brush grapple but with 3" tine spacing, and doubles nicely as a land plane).

I also have a Demo Dozer grapple bucket which is about as versatile as you can get with a dozer push blade , and four receiver hitches incorporated into the design. It's a bit heavy and a bit pricy, but well worth the extra cost in terms of quality and versatility
( DEMO-DOZER SKID STEER GRAPPLE ATTACHMENT BEST BUCKET PERIOD! ALL AMERICAN MADE - YouTube )

I do find demolition and reclamation productivity with these attachments to be considerably higher with a skid steer in lieu of a tractor, especially when combined with an extreme duty brush cutter ( mine is a skid pro)
(All my attachments are 72")

Sometimes I just can't help being a junior member of the word police- but I really appreciated your comments on the "quasi-CTL".

Got my wicked grapple a few days ago...

So did you push it down, or did it fall on its own?

If the latter, then you're lucky- in my experience, it would've fallen on the building were it my property...

Nice work anyhoo!

I put a step ladder up and got a 5/16” chain around top of trunk. Connected another long chain to 100 HP gear tractor, the one in picture. Put tractor in low range, 1st gear, at idle, about 1000 rpm, took up slack, and took entire tree down, root ball and all. Rest was ez. Used small tractor to fill hole and level.

Most of the dirt is gone. That piece is pretty light. I don’t know why you’d call it fake.

It was actually pretty heavy. It made the rear end pretty light but I didn’t have any ballast back there either.
Thanks for the compliments!

Was the 'fake' stump brought out of a burn pile? It doesn't take much weight if there's no ballast to get tippy. Best to keep whatever the load is close to the ground as possible to lower your COG.

I can make the V417 a teeter-totter with 2,500 pounds in the Monster grapple.

Extended the boom until it raised the rear end. :D
