That "other" grease gun coupler was me. Ain't goin there in this guy's thread.

Don't worry bout mixing grease it ain't rocket science. As someone previously said, mixed grease is better than none. I use polyurea grease and use it often. With a new rig you'll be all paranoid about the excess grease on the paint. You'll get over that.

When looking at a used machine, I'd much rather see one with piles of grease caked all around the joints than one that's nice & clean. The nasty one was getting greased often, the clean one, probably not & I'd wager has really worn pins and/or bushings.

I have used Deere polyurea grease for a couple years now and am sold it. It is a much thicker grease and is especially useful on loaders and things where there is "slop" in the parts because it really stays stuck and doesn't seem to migrate out as much as other greases. Deere says it will mix with any Deere grease and I'm OK with that. The parts guys say they sell way more of it than any of their other greases and many farmers and construction people use it exclusively.

For 50 years I have tried all kinds of greases and I now use the Deere poly for almost everything. I still use the moly grease for a couple bearings that say to use it but I think the Deere poly would be fine as well.

Same here. When my wife and son bought a JD 448 round baler JD SD Polyurea was what was recommended and they use on everything now and buy it by the case. It's very good grease as far as we can tell.

This not an ad for this company but a good picture and description of the grease:

Very informative site. Thank you.
Grease is very important and yet, few know much about it.

All that needs to be said.

That thinking is actually one of my key points in buying used equipment. It's also great advice for newbies buying things. The more grease, the better I feel and no grease on important equipment can led to all sorts of issues and multiplied by the number of fittings.

Failure to grease all the fittings on a sensitive piece of equipment can lead to problems at all of those grease points rather than just an isolated problem at one point.

Grease is our friend.

Ok, how do you know that seller did not maintain equipment properly but, juiced it up with grease prior to sale? I know that would be a first. :)

My equipment is well maintained, including greasing but, don't have excess grease everywhere?

My 2cents worth.

It's also a judgement call on the people involved with grease just another important factor. 10 years of dirty and used grease looks far different than fresh or recent grease and it's hard to fake. If someone sounds slippery to begin with and has fresh grease with no visuals on long term grease use, I'm suspicious. A guy with a grease gun and lots of spare time and low hours it's a good bet he just slathered the grease on and I'm more relaxed.

Everything is some degree of gamble so it's just "seat of the pants" stuff to help the process. It's a judgement call and I'll bet talking with you and looking at the equipment would lead to a conclusion that you took care of things. I'd bet on that.

By the way, I met a guy that had a 90HP tractor/loader and greased the loader almost every time he used it. After grease, he carefully wiped off what I would call 100% of the excess. When I saw it at 250 hours, it looked like new and while all the loader fittings were tight as could be there was no visible grease or dirt around the fittings, despite the rigorous grease schedule. When he sold it, he got absolute top dollar because of the condition and I was say grease was a factor the buyer took into account.

Buy extreme pressure, moly grease and just continue using that. The only downside to moly grease is that its black and seems to get on everything and ends up everywhere.

For some reason, I can't even walk into my barn, much less stand next to my tractor, without later finding a black spot somewhere on my pants. I hate that.
