One grease is considered incompatible to another grease when performance charateristics of the mixed grease falls below specifications.Generally speaking, greases of different chemical compositions should NOT be mixed. Mixing greases of different thickeners can form a mix that is to firm to provide sufficient lubrication or more common is that the mix is too soft to stay in place.
Combining greases of different oil bases can produce a fluid that will not provide a lasting lube film. Mixed grease can become diluted resulting in less heat resistance and have lower shear stability as the additives from one grease mix with additives from another grease. Purging the original grease, as best as one can is prudent.
