Greasing tractors +/-

My problem is not with the grease itself but with my Milwaukee battery powered grease gun. No matter what I do it seems to get air bound and not work. I gave up on it and went back to hand powered.

I bought a chinese one,it has not skipped a beat yet

I use John Deere SD Polyurea. It's what we tested tractors with in the lab, field, and built with on the JD assembly line. They even dabbed it on connectors as a dielectric. As mentioned though, frequency is more important than brand. Stick with what works for you too; some grease types are incompatible.

Small farm here, three tractors, all over 25 years old, 1 that's 73 and still going strong. Also a variety of experienced equipment, all of which needs at least some greasing at regular intervals.

I don't obsess over the type of grease, and for gun grease I use the same thing for everything. That would be whatever the local Tractor Supply has on the best sale when I go looking for it.

My battery Milwaukee sometimes is difficult to bleed to start, but one purged it pumps out the red and tacky just fine!

Local big-box auto parts store stocks red & tacky so I went with that. Label says has lithium in it. Also got tired over the years and invested in ridgid 18V grease gun since I have more of their tools... all have lifetime warranty including batteries.

NOW, pulled hose off and zerk fitting broke so I may upgrade to quick release fitting.

An electric gun would have been nice, but we managed just fine with the manual ones.

The hand powered guns always gave me fits. Trying to hold the gun up AND hold the connector straight on the zerk then trying to pump with one hand. I went with several Off-brand lock and lube style adapters and they all leaked after a few months. After going with a Real LockNLube, I bought another. I like them so much, I bought the LockNFlate for my air inflater. I now use two DeWalt electric grease guns. One with Moly and one with Red N Tacky. Hand pumping is so old, like me.

No matter what I do it seems to get air bound and not work. I gave up on it and went back to hand powered.

A quick read of the directions will probably make it work.

I’m probably going to be the underdog here.
I use Schaeher’s 231 Moly ? I don’t remember exactly I have CASE’s of each I bought 8-9 years ago for my excavator, one is for roller bearings the other is extreme high pressure, it’s a nasty black smelly grease that you might recall the odor if you have been around a truck stop, the railroads used to run this grease but I can’t say for sure right now.
The worst thing about the stuff is if you get it on you or your clothes, it’s there for a while.
Schaeffer makes their own grease in smaller controlled batches and I remember one of the pitch’s was the time they took to make a batch was a lot longer, like days longer to than others brands.
Schaeffer’s has served me well.
Tractors don’t get the same abuse as heavier equipment so any grease as long as you do grease is fine in my opinion.
At the end of the day even the wrong grease is better than no grease, same goes for oil.
I like the red and tacky grease and white lithium also.

One grease I would never use again is Amzoil all purpose, after about two hours use you could hear the pins rattle like there was no grease in them, pure garbage.
I use Mobile Delvac. What a difference. Its a high pressure extreme lithium based grease my implements are dead quiet now, wont change.

I have used Mobil synthetic grease for at least 20 years, I’ve never had any problems with it.
