green or orange small tractor??

Hi JE

I'm pretty new here but I'll take the JD side. My dealer had both the 2210 and BX so I was able to try em both out at the same time and put em side by side. They are both great tractors and I'm sure you would be happy with either. I liked the foot pedals on the Deere better using you heel on the BX just seemed akward. I thought the Deere was quieter also. I thought the Kubota's front axle and steering system was built quite a bit heavier, but I think the Deere will be ok. The 2210 seemed a bit larger and I think you sit up a little higher and just seemed more comfortable. I would recomend the 60 or 62 inch mower, seems that darn ROPS is always in the tree branches. The 2210 and BX 2200 were within 50 bucks of each other, I would think you could get real close to 10,000 for the tractor and mower Deere also has a 200 dollar rebate on up to two implements . Well good luck shopping and hope you find a 2210 to try out.

no matter which tractor u buy i think u would be well advised to get the fel at purchase time, will be less expensive than buying it later and i think most of the guys will agree that it the most useful of all attachments.

Just a note. If you think you will ever want a small backhoe, the BX2200 & JD 2210 do not have the frame to accept one. The BX22 is the machine to beat. Check out the guys that have traded up from the BX2200.

Thanks again everyone. Even more to consider, like the BX2200 vs. the BX22 for instance.

Some locals here don't hold our Deere dealer in high regard, but the Kubota guy seems like a good fit for me - I wish he had Deeres too...

Any more green people out there who did comparos before buying their 2210?

I agree with Wisconsinguy. I have a 2210 with FEL and 62" mmm. Unless you have a storage problem I would go with the larger deck. Cuts really nice around trees. It also shortens your mowing time and gives you time for other (more fun) jobs (Like digging ditches). As for the power, I thought both were nice machines. The major problem I had with the Kubota was the foot pedal. I have larger feet and working the pedal at times made me a contortionist (sp?) to get comfortable. I definitely like the Deeres 2 pedal approach. I have gotten quite a bit of seat time the last couple of days (since the rain quit) and got to work on my drainage ditches. FEL did a nice job clearing the ditch and the 5' blade cleaned it up nicely. No lack of power. My brother owns an older Massey with loader and my little green tractor impressed him. Hope this helped. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The 60 inch deck is a much better choice. Some of the "pot hole" areas that I mow with my 60 inch deck on my 7500 look great. You can buy two different 54 inch decks the rck54-75b hooks up with what Kubota calls a leaver and pin to regulat cutting height---Not a good choice. They also have a rck54-24b and a rck60-24b which cutting height is set by gauage wheels. Whatever size you go with make sure you get the -24b model. Good luck. Glenn

( the 2210 wouldn't be here until late June or so due to high demand )

That's a while, but not much compared to how long you will have your tractor. If you can find one to check out, it might be worth it. Both are great machines, though.

Have you tried the dealer locator on Deere's site? It might find you a dealer that is closer than you'd think...

James,

I've got a BX2200 with a FEL and 60" MMM and I love the setup (got it for $12,100 last year). I would definitely steer you to the larger mower. It does a terrific job, is very manuverable, and is easier to get close to trees than the 54". Price the difference between the BX1800 and 2200---if there's not much difference, I'd go with the bigger unit.

The boomerang pedal is (IMO) a big advantage ONCE you figure out how to use it and get comfortable. I'm reasonably tall (6'3"), and when mowing, I always have my heel resting on the tractor deck---NOT on the reverse side of the pedal. When doing FEL work with a lot of back/forward movements, I then can shift my foot completely on the pedal, if needed. Most of the time, I will actually go from forward (heel on deck) to reverse by letting the toes come off the pedal to the deck and then shifting my heel over to the "reverse" side of the pedal. Once you get used to this, I think you'll find the pedal to be more efficient, ergonomic, and safer than the two pedal situation.

The fact that your local Kubota dealer rents attachments is very nice---although he'd still probably rent to you if you pulled them behind a Green unit. I haven't spent time on a 2210, so I can't really give a good comparison. I do have a walk-behind Deere mower (54") that I love; I bought it used about 10 years ago, and it's still mowing great!

JE,

Sounds like either the Kubota or Deere will fit your needs. Not sure if its the same in your area, but by the time I set up an X series tractor (it does not come with everything you need to run 3 point and fel), I was able to buy a 4010 CUT. If you are looking at Deere and want to use it for more than just lawn mowing (in the future), I would look at 2210, 4010 and 4110 models.

Good Luck

Bob

Everyone must remember that there is a budget here of $10,000. Now us men can all change our budget numbers but JaimesEarl already told his "Wife" $10,000.00. To go over calls for a change order. That is a process that takes some time and lots of negotiating. So to go up above the BX1800 will require lots of knee time and doing dishes for a while. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bob IN Mn has a point about buying a stripped down tractor when you can get a nicer one that will be ready for the implements to come down the road.

I am not sure of going above the sub-compact for stability reasons. Everyone will have to make their own decision on that. The Sub-compact is more stable for the hills that JaimesEarl said he has. I bought a compact TC21D and found it not stable for my hills and then ended up having to buy a TC29D which handles the hills much better and it may be just the way New Holland has their tractors set up. I only say that so you don't get in the same situation I was in. Trading you new tractor back in for a bigger one requires another change order that may never get approved.
