Should have used heavier expanded metal, it's all bent up these days. Still intact, but bent.

Mine is held on with linchpins, so I have taken it off, used a rubber hammer to straighten it after a branch has hit it.Good thread.
If a DIY project, maybe the mesh should be a replaceable insert instead of welding it in. Make two or three while we're at it. Or lay the bent one down on concrete, drive over it a couple of times, and remount it...
