So another joke thread gets closed without an explanation. Is there a mod who doesn't like humor? Did someone go over the line but all of us suffer?

An explanation would be nice.

Maybe start here? Not sure but here are the posted rules. Forum Rules

Not saying it was your Original Post (I didnt see it) but could have been a reply that caused it.

Those rules are broken in many threads and those offenders are suspended or put in vacation. Closing the thread should be the last resort after many member infractions and not just one.

How many is many !?

I avoided Groan II and Groan III because among others TBN isn't facebook, twitter, etc for me either. Mods respond to complaints more than they use their own reasons, so lets get over blaming them every time that happens. You don't like speed limits, don't blame the cop who writes the ticket. I don't blame shirt & shoe mandates on wait-staff.

Can't please everybody all the time. You want to lace comments with offensive (to someone) innuendo or to support biasies (>one biasy) do that where it's expected, like "TNT".

Lets keep TBN a place where we Google-search for those who won't do it themselves, as though we members have all the answers. :sneaky:

There’s at least one mod who is way over sensitive to anything against his personal political views.

Sad to keep seeing the Groan threads closed for a single post that people find offensive.

Every good forum has some threads like the Groan thread. People know they are for entertainment and if they want to read them they can. It's like recess for kids. Personally I checked it regularly because there were lots of funny memes etc. All forums need traffic and there isn't a great reason not to allow a thread or two that are off topic. The best forums allow people to express themselves outside of the "serious, on-topic" threads. Alternatives are people putting memes in regular threads or more likely avoiding the forum altogether.

I've had a post or two removed in the 10 years I've been a member here; and that's fine, but I hate to see this thread closed. It's been a fun thread, and by and large every one colored inside the lines. I'm beginning to see hypersensitive across the board now in situations where we used to make a note and go on. The offending post(s) must have been removed; which apparently was not good enough, or else I missed something.

And he's gotten out of hand.

Not only does "power corrupt", but power corrupts x 2 if it can do so in secret.

I think any and all moderator "actions" must bear the name of the specific moderator that performed the action. Whether closing a thread, or removing member's posts.

Same goes for getting "temp banned". Any time such action is taken, it must be relayed to the member in question with the specific infraction spelled out, what specific "rule" was broken, and WHO the moderator was that performed such action.

As it is now, members who have been "moderated" don't even know why it was done.

And it is NOT being done evenly across various subjects.

Yup, I had one joke pulled about 8 years ago and cant remember another since and have never been in a time out or suspended.
The question is why do people go out of their way to be offended. Like jk said, you don't like jokes avoid such threads. I dare some to go through the thread and tell us which one offends them or are outside the rules. Did a couple get through? Sure but vast majority were funny and let's us pass the day with a chuckle or a groan.

Back in the day ... Used to be that Americans had a pretty good sense of humor & could take good natured ribbing or understood a joke for what it was (whether they agreed & thought it was funny or not.) In many ways, it was the humor that unified us as Americans. Even the old Soviet Union & Eastern Block countries had tremendous dark humor that wasn't officially sanctioned but got a good chuckle out of just about anyone that wasn't totally brainwashed by the propaganda of the State. Seems the good old US of A is headed down this path where a joke will result in you being sent to gulag for re-education. As someone whose family escaped communism & State sanctioned thought in 1948, all I can say is good luck with that & you have a lot to learn America. Thought control & propaganda work until they don't, then there is no control over the outcome.

Reminds me of an eastern European joke from the 70's ... A Polish fisherman pulled up an old oil lantern in his net. As he was rubbing it to clean it so he could get a better look, a Genie appeared & told him he was granted three wishes. When asked for his first wish, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie thought this odd but agreed, then asked for the second wish. Again, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie, though perplexed, agreed, and asked the Pole for his final wish. With a huge smile, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie granted this final wish as well, then asked the Pole why he wanted Poland invaded by China 3 times when the full strength of the Chinese military would destroy the country with only 1 invasion. Simple, replied the Pole. For the Chinese to invade Poland 3 times, they will need to invade & cross Russia 6 times.

Unless we want those types of jokes being told where rural states are substituted for Poland and California/New York/DC are substituted for Russia, we need to get over ourselves & get our sense of humor back. Stop reading nefarious intent into every joke & take it for what it is. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't read the jokes, if you are so sensitive that everything is mortally offensive, have a long talk with your parents about the disservice they did (to you and this country) while raising you ... seems pretty simple to me.
