Back in the day ... Used to be that Americans had a pretty good sense of humor & could take good natured ribbing or understood a joke for what it was (whether they agreed & thought it was funny or not.) In many ways, it was the humor that unified us as Americans. Even the old Soviet Union & Eastern Block countries had tremendous dark humor that wasn't officially sanctioned but got a good chuckle out of just about anyone that wasn't totally brainwashed by the propaganda of the State. Seems the good old US of A is headed down this path where a joke will result in you being sent to gulag for re-education. As someone whose family escaped communism & State sanctioned thought in 1948, all I can say is good luck with that & you have a lot to learn America. Thought control & propaganda work until they don't, then there is no control over the outcome.
Reminds me of an eastern European joke from the 70's ... A Polish fisherman pulled up an old oil lantern in his net. As he was rubbing it to clean it so he could get a better look, a Genie appeared & told him he was granted three wishes. When asked for his first wish, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie thought this odd but agreed, then asked for the second wish. Again, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie, though perplexed, agreed, and asked the Pole for his final wish. With a huge smile, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie granted this final wish as well, then asked the Pole why he wanted Poland invaded by China 3 times when the full strength of the Chinese military would destroy the country with only 1 invasion. Simple, replied the Pole. For the Chinese to invade Poland 3 times, they will need to invade & cross Russia 6 times.
Unless we want those types of jokes being told where rural states are substituted for Poland and California/New York/DC are substituted for Russia, we need to get over ourselves & get our sense of humor back. Stop reading nefarious intent into every joke & take it for what it is. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't read the jokes, if you are so sensitive that everything is mortally offensive, have a long talk with your parents about the disservice they did (to you and this country) while raising you ... seems pretty simple to me.
