Hi guys,

I bought a new GT2544 last year in April. Been pretty happy with it so far - however I have a couple questions if anyone might know?

1. I just washed it this evening - and when pulling it back into the garage, there was a loud (but not too loud) 'click' - similar to the sound of a really tight bolt backing out. I drove forward and backward trying to find the pattern but could not. It was on concrete - but I do not think it's a locked rear end so I don't think it's anything to do with that. I checked for a rock stuck in the tire or something -- nothing. Any thoughts? I did check transmission fluid and it looked good. I have 37 hours on it.

2. This is the first time I can remember having it on in the dark -- the oil light seemed to be slightly illuminated. It definitely went more dim when I turned the key off - so something was going on in there. I don't think it was any light bleed because all of the other lights were off. Speaking of oil -- am I supposed to check the oil with the dip stick firmly seated or just let it lay without snapping it in? I'm right at L if I let it lay, and very close to F if I snap it in.

Thanks in advance guys! Long time lurker, first post.

1. Use compressed air or leaf blower to clean machine - washing 'em just about guarantees electrical probs down the line. Just a good wipedown with a wet rag will do prior to waxing.
2. Can't speak to the popping noise.
3. On Dipstick - particularly if engine is still in warranty - follow whatever instructions in the engine mfgr's manuals for where/how to position dipstick for oil level check....as overfull can be just as bad as underfilled.

Regarding number 3 --- I couldn't find it in my manual and my dealer didn't know either -- so I was hoping someone on here would know more.

Thanks for the other 2. I've only washed it once - I cut in a bit of rain and it got very dirty :)

Chk the engine label/plate for mfgr's name/engine model/type.
Go to the ENGINE mfgrs website - should be able to d/l free manuals that will give you dipstick use details for that particular engine.
IMHO, would look for another dealer - he shoulda had that engine info on hand.

Every vehicle, car, truck, tractor, push mower and riding mower I have ever owned required the "Dip Stick" be fully seated to check the oil level. Every Kohler engine I currently own or have ever owned requires the "Dip Stick" be fully seated to get a correct oil level check. The equipment also needs to be parked on a flat level surface with the engine not running for several minutes prior to checking the oil.

I got one where tractor mfgr and engine mfgr differed in fully seated vs setdown on ledge. Tractor mfgr would not acknowledge engine's mfgr's instructions. Since engine mfgr would handle engine warranty, I followed their recipe....

My dealer told me to make sure the dip stick cap was pushed all the way on to check the oil level on my GT2550 with the 22hp Kohler.

I had heard the same clicking noise when I drive mine on the concrete. It has not gotten any worse and does not do it with any consistency. I'm not too worried about it.

Not sure about the oil change indicator. Mine finally came on, but I had changed the oil before the recommended interval as I usually do. I have seen the faint glow that you are describing. I think it is just some problem in the gage since there is always voltage goint to it. As long as it works when needed, it should not be a problem.
