Yanmar YM2000/ Ford 2N
Greetings, all, from a newcomer.

After months of frantic research I took the leap and bought a gray, a YM2000 with an FEL and box scraper. I found a strange pattern that nearly everyone with a negative opinion had a 16000 dollar tractor to sell. Luckily I'm not frightened by anything with bolts on it, because the sales reps. were really quick with stories of mechanical nightmares. I haven't had a chance to put ballast in the tires yet and I'm already impressed. What a breath of fresh air compared to the Ford 2N I used prior. I have one modification I was planning on, to replace the dash panel indicator lights with actual guages. Does anyone know of any oddities to the Yanmar electrical system that I might need to know about before converting the lights? Thanks!

Welcome neighbor!

There are several threads here describing installing gauges. There's nothing dificult but you need one adapter beyond what is normally in an install kit.

I bought an expensive racing-grade water temp meter but decided to not use it. The few times I have seen the temp light were totally unexpected, caused by mowing chaff plugging the radiator rather than heavy load. I decided I would notice a light quicker than a gauge out of range.

The more I use my YM240 (US version YM2000) the more I conclude that they got the design right and there is no reason to add more complexity.

I consider both tire ballast and the scraper box essential for safe use of the loader. It would probably be a good idea to swap the rear tires side to side if that will give more width, also.

Enjoy your new tractor!

Some people like to use the gauges in combination with the lamps. In this case.. you need to "T" off with a sender and bulb... not too bad a job.. plus.. I like to actually see #'s of oil pressure...and amps or volts on a gauge.

I couldn't find a "T" to work with the water temp gauge that would allow the probe to get far enough into the bloack. But I was able to copy a setup found here on TBN to "T" the oil pressure gauge so both the light and gauge work. Here's a picture of the oil pressure connections on my 2210. I got the idea from another post, can't remember which one.

Yep.. the water pump is the iffy one. I've seen smaller bulbs, and even electronic gauges that work ok.. some others simply locate the water gauge to 'nearest' point, and go for slightly less accurate reading at say.. upper hose.. etc.. few deggrees off.. but gives you a basic idea... plus you still have the sender lamp.

You're in the same neighborhood as my sister, she's in Volcano. Is West Point up in the hills too? Looks like it from the map........
Happy tractorin!

Thanks for all of the wisdom and advice. Reversing the wheels was the first thing I did as soon as I unloaded the tractor. Just added ballast (water) to the rear wheels, and what an incredible difference! California has a very good point too.

It always amazes me what a small world it is. I'm all of about 10 miles from Volcano.
