Obviously, you don't know your firearms!

Ruger makes outstanding revolvers (got 3 of 'em)...they seem to have trouble with the semi-autos though. At least two recalls on Ruger semi-autos that I can think of...the SR9 and the LCP (I have one of those...so that means I have 4 Ruger handguns).

Glocks are probably the most robust handguns manufactured...not pretty, very utilitarian...and very reliable. Reminds me of me...

Roy, You probally have a safe full of Highpoints....:laughing: Your too easy..How many recalls for Glocks?

Bird I don't know either, but I ran Mecgars for many years in the P226, and they worked flawlessly in USPSA/IPSC competition. As good as factory in my opinion. Bought them at the Tulsa gunshow for $15 each. (been quite a few years ago). Stay the heck away for USA mags or TripleK.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find.

Actually, I can't recall any...

No, no Highpoints in my safe...a couple Glocks, one Colt 1911, a handful of Ruger and Taurus revolvers...a couple SKS rifles...two AK's and a half dozen or so others.

I posted a few weeks back about my new 9mm. Turns out I love shooting and I am now thinking about adding a few more handguns. Maybe I cant think of anymore tractor toys to buy.

I am thinking about a new .357 revolver like a Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 with 4" barrel or so.
I am also thinking about a small or smaller 9mm for a travel gun maybe a Beretta pX4 subcompact if it fits my hand.
Also maybe a Sig 226 .357 semi auto for a full size with more sting (or .40 cal not decided but .357 sig seems better in most categories besides price).

I really like the safety on my Beretta 92fs and I dont know how the safeties work on the other models. The Ruger shows a locking bar and the SIG shows a thumb safety (I think its the 226) but I dont know how they work.
Anyone have any experience with any of these?

Also my wife is surprisingly not opposed to learning how to shoot so I may explore a smaller gun (she is tiny) for her and I am thinking about a smaller revolver for simplicity and ease of use.

If I can I am going to head out to the National Gun show so I can see some of these guns and go from there.

Man that's quite the wish list you got already. take it slow no need to rush. Buy the top line stuff and you'll have it forever. I have only sold a few guns over the years and always to upgrade to something better.

The one brand I don't have is Sig, I may have to get one just so I can say I have a "SIG" But man they must have dozens of different models and configurations :confused2: We have an awesome gun shop in our town, that has just about every gun you could hope for. Beretta is in one case, glock in another, Sig takes up four or five cases!

You mentioned you like the 92's function SA/DA, decocker, safety, visible functioning hammer. Sig has model with all that believe, but I don't know which model number. I see they have an inexpensive line in polymer, but their all metal guns are pricey.

Which is what I have; a P229DAK 9 mm.

Does anyone know of a good place (lower price, in other words) to buy extra factory Sig magazines?

MidwayUSA ran a special on them a year or so ago and I bought six. Like James, I have used Mec Gars, who as mentioned has made OEM for Sig and others.

For those with Glocks, Police Supply Express has the cheapest mags I have found for them.

Like Roy, I find them to be very reliable utilitarian firearms. I initially didn't like them, but my department wouldn't let us carry anything else and I came to appreciate them. They are extremely easy to work on and you can changer trigger pull from 3 1/2 to to 11 lbs. in a few minutes. Ours initially had the "New York Trigger" with the heavy pull, but we were allowed to go with the 5.5 lb. later; very easy fix.

As to recalls, I know of none, but there were several recommended "upgrades".

Glock latest recall was last summer for trigger assembly's on Gen-4 :( Police carried them cause they got a very good deal and Glock got thier brand name out there quick. I was only pulling Roy's leg when I called them junk? but they are not worth the money they charge for them. and Roy I must have aleast 40 handguns.

Interesting, a quick Bing search turned up several about which I had not heard.

Well that's a contradiction, in one sentence you say they're so prevalent because the LE agencies got a good deal and then you say they're not worth the money :confused2:

Which is it? Personally I'd pay pay twice as much if I had to, to own what some would argue to be the most reliable pistol.

If you stick to your theory that they are in LE service more than all other brands combined because they are cheap, that could be a reasonable argument, we know government agencies go with the lowest bid.
But don't, in the same sentence say they're not worth what they cost.

They keep it simple as posible, 35 parts total. So many parts are interchangeable.

I'm not sure they would be better than the M9 for military service, but in my opinion for personal protection, you would be short changing yourself if you didn't start with glock and narrow down to another choice only if there was something about Glock that didn't work for you.

A great Glock video for beginners, I just found on detailed dis-assembly

One of the reason I like Glock as much as I do is their simplicity. It takes 5 sceonds (if that) to field strip for cleaning...

I always thought the Glock would have been a better sidearm to replace the old 1911...again, due to their simplicity and robustness. It's my understanding the military contract specified an external safety (which Glocks do not have). Don't quote me on that safety requirement...I'm pulling this from memory.

BTW, when I refer to the Glocks robustness, I'm specifically referring to the 9mm guns. The Glock was originally designed for 9mm (the Model 17) and those, IMHO, are the best models.

No doubt per unit cost has played a part in the adoption of Glock by so many Law Enforcement Agencies, but you really need to do some research on the initial testing of these guns before they were considered acceptable if you believe cost was the only or over riding factor.
