Gun Rack???

Packing iron for snakes, bears, and other hostiles, was that an AK47? You all are killing me,. Statistically more of us will do harm to family or ourselves with our own guns then any animal could hope to accomplish. .

and your reference for that data are?

fbi and nra accumulated crime statistics don't seem to support that statement.

Really? FBI and NRA compile animal attacks on humans successfully defended against with a fire arms? Better count your hanging chads.

You'd be surprised what all data is collected, assuming it's called in as a firearm discharge.

heck.. yer doctor might even ask you about it,... depending on what state you are in.

In the NRA magazine each month there are compilations of News articles, about self defense firearms usage, and while not every month will have one where a firearm is used in self defense against an animal, I have read them, and they do exist, I would say 1 about every 2 or 3 months. Most of the articles, are about defending against 2 legged animals.

yep.. I take belt's comments as typical non-gun diatribe. crime statistics clearly show that cwp holders are among the safest and most law abiding sector of society. heck.. look at the national firearm act.. and NFA guns.. IE. machine guns. of legally registered machineguns.. look who made the list for using one illegally.. yep.. a law enforcement officer. :)

I have a collection of the nra mags that goes back decades. there are plenty of animal attacks listed in them .. plenty enough that they are quite a bit more than merely statistically significant.

I don't pay much attention to statistics. I have used my handguns against wild dogs to protect myself and my family.

Feral hogs are becoming problematic in more and more states.

Statistics don't count for snot when something is chewing on your leg and yeah it has happened to me. If you think you are more dangerous to yourself when armed than not, you probably are, but don't include all of us in with you.

+1 here, Come to think of it 42 years ago I was chased by a rabid skunk, and I was armed with a .357 Magnum, and let me tell you running and trying to shoot at something chasing you with a huge adrenelin dump going on, does not make for the best accuracy, I missed 5 out of 6 shots, but did prevail and roll the animal up on the last shot. This skunk was out at midday and came running towards me at first sight. I was only 14 at the time, and yes I carried on our own farm at that age. I was glad to have the revolver that day. We burned the carcass. In all my years of using guns, I have never endangered any family members, or anyone else. Still packing.

Gents, I am a hardcore gun enthusiast and agree with the pro-gun posts....but we are getting close to political and definitely off topic.

Think it's time to return to adding a gun rack?

i don't see anything political about discussing whether someone is or not more dangerouse to themdselves by carrying a gun.

as for the answer.. statistics just don't support that conclusion. police accidentally shoot themselves more often than CCW holders.. :(

I picked up a set of cheap vinyl covered gun racks from a sporting goods store meant to be bolted on to an ATV I attached them to the ROPS using 2 sets of gear clamps. All told I cost me about $15. My tractor is my ATV for hunting and due to bears I usually have a shot gun when out in the fields. I can't have it loaded while on a vehicle here in Ontario but It is legal to have shells in a side saddle... Stupid Canadian gun laws. The gun sits just over my head and I can still fold the ROPS as it is mounted to the front.
