You should safety wire the hairpin. Go to the hardware store and get a coil of small diameter safety wire for a couple of bucks. Wrap the wire 3-5 times around the end of the hairpin right at the bend. Cut it and twist the ends about 5 times into a pigtail. That sucker will now never come off.

Sure would like to know what the part number of an off the rack Gator Blade would be. I sent a Gator Blade dealer this number 8772890 and he couldn't find it. I knew he probably wouldn't as it is a NH number. Just the cost that NH marks up things I was hoping to get the same blade at a better price. Anyone know what might be the Gator Number??

Murph (and BeeFarmer), if the Gator Blades are cheaper than the OEM blades, maybe you want to give them a try. I never tried them on a tractor mower, but I bought a set to try on my Cub Cadet riding mower, my nearest neighbor got a set for his MTD riding mower, and my brother-in-law got a set for his Montgomery Ward riding mower (very good fast talking salesman). They cost about twice as much as the OEM blades and it didn't take long for all three of us to find they weren't as good as the OEM blades and we all threw them away and bought OEM blades. Of course that's been awhile back when the Gator Blades were new on the market, so maybe you'll have better luck.

Bird,

Now you got me worried, naw just kidding. The Gator Blade actually is Ten Bucks per blade cheaper than the OEM. This parts girl I am dealing with had all the numbers in her computer. I should give her a call because I can also get a high lift blade from New Holland also. So I do have some options but I was impressed with the Mulcher Blade but I hate to buy it if it doesn't work. Does anyone else out there have any experience with it.

I did a search and found some discussions that claim that blade is pretty good. I guess if I spend $45.00 to try them it wouldn't be so bad.

I don't know if this will work for your situation. I am using a 4 foot bushhog type mower. When run slowly, counterclockwise around the property, it leaves a very nice finish cut with no "residue". Even when it's 6 to 8 inches high.

Spencer,

I will call the parts girl at my New Holland Dealer. She had the standard number at 24.95 each, a hi-lift number at 24.95 each and a Gator Blade number for 14.95 each. I will get the numbers and try and post them this week-end.

Hey thats ok I am sure its just because I have not had time to put the new price disk into my computer system yet we have just been too busy to take the computers down to do this.

What are Gator blades? I need new blades for my finish mower, is this a 3rd party supplier? I use 3 blades on my finnish mower 5/16" X 2 1/2" x 29". Kind of curious. I can get a set from Carvers for about $85 plus shipping. Thanks

This doesn't strike me as a probable answer, but we bought a Scotts rider from HD couple years ago. Used it and though it "cut" the grass, I was never very satisfied with the cut. It did an especially poor job when the grass was a bit longer, not unlike your situation.

It was a returned item to the store when we bought it and as such, we got a fantastic price on it (like $900 for what was on their floor for about $1500..so I could live with a "poorer" cut). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The next spring I went to put new blades on it (lots of rocks), and low & behold, seems the ORIGINAL blades were on backwards /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif . it was never "cutting" the grass as much as ripping it. Now I knew why it was returned to HD. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I put the new blades in the tool drawer, and turned the origional blades around and it cut my yard finer than a scalpel. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I figure the odds are not there that you have this situation, but might be worth a look see on the underside.
