Had My Throat Cut Tuesday

Literally had my throat cut Tuesday by a neural surgeon. He went in from the front of my neck just to the right of my Adams apple, then drilled a hole in the vertebrae to reach the affected area. He removed a disk between vertebrae 5 & 6, took out some calcium deposits, removed bone spurs and inserted a sterile piece of cadaver bone. Then he put in a Titanium plate and screws to stabilize the fusion. I am a little sore and have a bit of pain but actually feel better than I have in a long time. The problem now is that I am bored, I cannot drive the truck, tractor or bike and can't lift anything over 8 lbs. The doc gave me some feel good pills that I take when I need them but they just make me want to sleep (which I suppose is not a bad thing). So when I am in a lucid state I come here to read about your tractor and equipment exploits, should be down about 4 weeks or more before the Doc will release me back to full activity.

Sounds like you are doing alright. I went in for an artificial disc replacement of the C3-4 and C5-6 in December a year ago. When I woke up, they hadn't fixed anything and said they couldn't. I'm glad yours went better than mine.

If your surgery/recovery goes the way three (staff of 16) of my co-worker's did --- you'll be a very happy camper in a couple of months!

Their all doin' a whole lot better with the surgery than the agony they were in before.

One of the poor guys couldn't sit down in a chair for nearly a year before he got all fixed up. He put everything on his desk; including computer, up on blocks, so he could work standing up.

Now, one of the guys and his wife are running their 85 acre vinyard in Oregon. (He's a Kubota diehard - so, I email him JD ads..)

JerryG; sorry to hear the docs couldn't get you fixed up. My oldest son has got a couple of titanium rods wired to each side of his spine - from just below his shoulder blades to the base of his neck. Don't know how many C's that is...

Better to have the dealer make this repair than trying it yourself even though it is probably out of warranty.

Good luck and don't rush it. You need to rest up and be sitting down when the bill arrives.

My wife had a similar surgery a couple of years ago.

Well at least you have a good seance of humor and that will help with the recovery

Do as the DR say's I have a friend had a broken hip and and had to get it replaced he didn't wait to get back on the tractor seat he had multiple problems and had to get another replacement.
The DR told him if he didn't listen this time there wasn't enough bone to make a 3rd replacement.
That got through and he listened this time and the hip is fine now.

Got home yesterday from #5 shoulder surgery, block still not worn off yet so no pain and no control of rt arm yet. this is second on this shoulder, first one was last Nov, did great for 5 wks, then started giving trouble and was torn next to the repair. After 3rd surgery on lt shoulder, it's doing fine. Be down abt six wks so that means garden will be late, might be that long before it dries up here anyway. Hope yours does well and follow DR's instructions, sure is hard to do nothing when you feel good after being in pain for a long trime.
