Long time lurker, first time poster. This thread has some interest for me. I have a large bone spur at c6-c7. Any of ya'll have symptoms like these. I hurt in the upper left chest area, back below the shoulder blade and left arm. Dr. has done tons of blood work, ekg, stress test, etc and assures me that he cain't find any heart problems. He feels it is coming from my neck. Even though he tells me that it is really getting old waking up with those symptoms. Thinking it may time to look at getting it fixed, if they are pretty sure it will work.

seems like this surgery is really common now days: you will do fine: i couldn't wait to get mine fixed: even though i have some very minor problems with it now, it beats the heck out of what i was going thru. i was losing strength and use of my left arm...

Has your Doctor ordered an MRI on your neck? This will show bone spurs, calcium deposits and herniated disks. I had all three and had some of the same symptoms plus severe headaches. The Dr should have had the MRI done if he suspected your neck. Have him refer you to a good neural surgeon. The way the surgeon explained it to me was as we get older our bodies developed bone spurs, add arthritis and you get the calcium deposits. Then the frosting on the cake, a herniated disk. I put it off but the quality of life was not great so I had the surgery, you do not need to hurt all the time. The procedure will not give you a new neck but it will make life a lot more enjoyable.

My sister in law had her throat /neck operated on the same day you did 4-14-9.
Her daughter called about 4:15 PM that after noon and said her mother come out of the operation just fine about 3:30 PM and that they planed on letting her go home the next day.
Things didn't go as planed as she had a reaction to the pain medicine they gave her .
She is still in the hospital in the rehab unit.
She has been in the hospital since 4/14/09.

UP DATE.
She got home from the hospital on 4-29-9.
She was reluctant to have the surgery due to the fact that the operation could have left her paralyzed from the waist down. She kept putting it off for about 4 years but kept getting worse as time went on. So she had no choice but to go ahead and have it done. But the doctor told her she also could lose her voice from the operation.

She called a couple days ago and said she was doing great. What a wonderful feeling and the beautiful sound of her voice on the other end of the phone when she called.
No paralyses either.
