Ham here too but I decline to post my callsign;)
With the internet now one can input a call sign to various databases and get the licensees full name/address and even date of birth! Too much Identity Theft going on to risk it nowadays, I even ditched the Amateur Radio plates on my car years ago for the same reason...don't need some ticked off road rager tracking me down:p
Some may think I'm paranoid...HAH! Now I'm going to go back to cleaning my black assault rifles and check on my ammo stockpile......

Ham radio and assault rifles are my 2 favorite hobbies. I own 2 ak's and an ar-15
myself and all the ammo to start a small war. Here is a pic of a sign on my front fence at my home it reads"no tresspassing protected by ak-47"

People slow down and stare but they keep moving in an orderly fashion.

I have two handytalkies, and an Icom 2000. Won't post my call either. It's not that I am paranoid, just so many people out to get me. LOL
I have two towers one is about 72 feet tall and the other is about 40.
Personally, I use my shortwave for local listening on the FM radio stations.
A good hobby but can be expensive as most hobbies are.
Like the guns as well. Don't own any AK's. I had a SKS and sold it to a local gun dealer. I do a little reloading once in a while when I run low on ammo. I have a fiberglass barrel Winchester shot gun. Very light and that is the way I shoot it, light loads.

oh ive been meaning to ask how do you get the zero with a slash...

Easy as pie. Using the numeric keypad on the right side, not the numbers at the top, while holding down the ALT KEY and type the numbers 0216. When you let up the ALT KEY, you'll have your Ø. By the way, in case you didn't know, that slash is also called a VIRGULE.

I lke the No Trespassing signs that have a depiction of a riflescope crosshairs and the words- YOU ARE NOW IN RANGE :D

Also remember - just because you aren't paranoid does not mean they aren't out to get you......

Ok.. so let me get this straight... you are a ham.. and have to broadcast your callsign at beginning of broadcast.. and then do periodic station ID's.. and this is all open broadcast freely to -anyone- with a rcvr.. and you are ok with that.... but not somewhere else... interesting logic...

First hams don't broadcast, that is a specific type of transmission prohibited by the FCC. We transmit. Semantics I know:)

You are right though in a sense. I wish the FCC made it difficult to get the info. Suppose everyone could look up your car license plate online and instantly get your name and address. Suppose everyone could look up your user name on any forum or your email address and instantly get your name and address.
Scary huh?
Although now that I think about it, maybe people would drive much more sanely if they weren't somewhat anonymous:cool: I bet it would cut way down on aggressive driving and the one finger salute if the guy you flipped off may be waiting in your driveway when you got home:eek:
The general public doesn't listen to most ham radio transmissions fortunately, although there are the scanner enthusiasts that listen to the FM repeaters which is a very popular mode. One does have to be careful what is said on the air. I make it a point to never discuss vacation plans or various other obvious potential problem things on the air you wouldn't want known to the whole world. I do hear some that don't keep this in mind though:rolleyes:

Your right Soundguy! SO here goes N5TUH. When transmitting you have to ID every so often so anyone with a police scanner can hear it. I guess with all the identity theft I got a little bit overly cautious there.
I got in on the codeless tech thing way back when it first began. Had my ticket renewed in, I think it was 2001. My wife got her ticket when I first got mine.
Nothing like being guided by logic as opposed to emotion.
By the way was that a modus ponens??? Forgeting me logic here in my later years, along with everything else.LOL
