Affirming the anticedent.. or the law of detatchment?? Hmm.. could possibly be ' non sequitur'?

You'll have to forgive the technical wording slip, as I'm involved in commercial radio media.. probably much more than the amature bands.. thus my reference to broadcasting.. etc..

First hams don't broadcast, that is a specific type of transmission prohibited by the FCC. We transmit. Semantics I know:)

You are right though in a sense. I wish the FCC made it difficult to get the info. Suppose everyone could look up your car license plate online and instantly get your name and address. Suppose everyone could look up your user name on any forum or your email address and instantly get your name and address.
Scary huh?
Although now that I think about it, maybe people would drive much more sanely if they weren't somewhat anonymous:cool: I bet it would cut way down on aggressive driving and the one finger salute if the guy you flipped off may be waiting in your driveway when you got home:eek:
The general public doesn't listen to most ham radio transmissions fortunately, although there are the scanner enthusiasts that listen to the FM repeaters which is a very popular mode. One does have to be careful what is said on the air. I make it a point to never discuss vacation plans or various other obvious potential problem things on the air you wouldn't want known to the whole world. I do hear some that don't keep this in mind though:rolleyes:

Mornin Schmism,
Used to be WA1HLP way back starting in 1966, somehow managed to get my advanced class ticket, let it go by the roadside sometime in the 80's :( Wish I still had the equipment, loved those late night 30 wpm cw contacts across the country ! ;) My Pop didnt appreciate being woke up in the middle of the night or interference when he was watching his nightly news program ! Anyway many fond memories, and hope at one time to get back into it again at least listening with a good receiver !

N2HVP. Been licensed since 1988. Kinda lost interest after several other local ham friends turned silent key a few years ago so I haven't been on. Equipment is a TS 850SAT, TS940SAT, Yaesu FT757GXII, Alinco DR590, Kenwood TM3530A, FT727 and prbably a few I forgot about. 1 tower and various antenna's. Spent most radio time on 10 mtrs, 2 mtr, 220, 440, and 11 mtr CB.

Hey HAMS,

I just finished a little antenna project (wireless microphone antennas at the church) and I overbought on coax. Wasn't sure how I would be able to route it through existing structure. So does anyone need some nice RG8? Belden p/n 9914, 97 ft. If your interested, please PM me.

I'll throw in that my Grandfather was a HAM, clear back before WWII.

Was exciting 6 or 8 months ago. I took a group of Boy Scouts to CVS-12 USS-Hornet, retired aircraft carriar/musuem. The offer Radio Merit badge. My son and 7 others from our group earned the merit badge on the ship. They had a docent on the other side of the Bay, who talked with them to practice. They used one of the original radio rooms on the ship, although they used fairly new equipment.

While some of the boys were waiting their turn to talk across San Francisco Bay, others were in the next room, listening to another docent talking to a guy in South America.

Some of the other militasry ship/museums do this program too; USS New Jersey lists Radio merit badge.

My son earned his Aviation merit badge there(USS Hornet in Alameda, Ca) on a previous trip.

You think you got privacy? They CAN find out info about you just by putting in your username, if you've ever registered with a chat board like this one. Try sometime entering your username in one of the major search engines. May be a little more stuff availbale than you would like. For any serious hackers, getting the rest may not be a big challenge anyway. Do you shred all the credit card offers that go in your trash? I'm not a ham, but would like to pass this along: when we had major 100-year flooding here in June, the AT&T lines went out, the hospitals were flooded, but the local ham operators kept the communications going for the sheriff's dept. and the emergency personnel. So, thanks on behalf of the rest of us!
