Same here in GA and the doctor's signature has to be notarized... the forms are available from the DMV site...

There is also an option for someone that uses their own vehicle to transport an individual that is handicapped...

yep - I had to get a renewal from my Doctor here in Georgia, which had to be notarized. Conveniently her receptionist was a notary and charge $15 to stamp the form.

Mom, back in Texas, had many disabilities including being blind and had lost both legs (diabetes!!!). But she refused to get a handicap tag. She figured that there were others in much worse shape than she that needed the tags more. If she only knew of the abuse these days...

Here in Tyler, it's fairly common to see a very nice Ferrari in the handicap parking space at Sam's Club. People will take pictures and post it on FB with a derogatory comment about some rich person is taking advantage. But the owner of the Ferrari is a Korean vet who was wounded fighting in the war, and after the war, was a successful lawyer who is now retired. He could be driving a KIA, and nobody would care, but since he likes driving his Ferrari to Sam's, people like to pass judgement.

Those citizen patrols sound like something else. Try as I might I have yet to encounter such people that would have the audacity to approach me and get into my business like that.

The citizens patrol are a deputized Sheriff Deputy and drive Sheriff logoed cars, amber lights, no siren, and they are unarmed. They are volunteers that have to go through a comprehensive training program. They have the force of law behind them. They are also eyes and ears in the community and called upon for other sheriff duties such as traffic control at accidents. All I have met are courteous and friendly.

Not when I tried to get one for my Dad. I took him into DVM, had him walk in there at a snails pace with his walker, wheezing all the way so they could see. They denied it. Maybe I needed a Dr. note, I don稚 know. He passesd a year or so after so no big deal to me.

Here in WA you have to have the state form signed by a doctor to get the tag or plates.

Right, Lucky for him he didn't have to use the gun or he would have went to jail. Unless he was an off duty cop he was not within his rights to pull a weapon..

Concealed carry is for personal self defense in true life or death situations. Idiots like that give all CCP holders a bad name.

We have regular appearing marked police cars here in my city, except they have "CITIZENS ON PATROL" in big letters right across the back and on each side. It's usually two older gentlemen and I've never seen them do anything other than drive around and maybe stop to visit with residents. In other words, just extra eyes and ears for the police.

Technically you were violating the law if you were in WA State. With the Tag you also get a wallet ID card. The Tag is issued to a specific person and they have to in the vehicle to be legal. Here folks have been warned/fined for such violations. Most are caught due to whistle blowers though there are citizen patrols that check parking lots in their territory and issue tickets when plates or tags are not displayed, the a judge sorts it out. I was asked once to show my ID card by the citizen patrol.

I agree that common courtesy has gone out the window in this country. I have the license plates but; seldom use it unless I am on one of my bad days when it is hard to walk. Here there are so many tags out that the required minimum number of handicapped stalls is way short of demand. I can seldom find a spot at our Fred Meyer (Kroger) store and they have 20 of them.

I was parked in a disabled spot at the grocery store. County Sheriff (not a deputy) knocked on the window and said "you don't need to park there". I replited. "Correct, I don't, but she does" just as my wife came out the exit. Yes, waitingin a spot to pick up the disabled ticket owner is legal.

Actually, he DID have the right to pull his gun once the shoplifter pulled his....and he was not charged.

But he is an idiot because he instigated the incident by acting like a cop or store security in demanding to see their receipt. If he had walked up to me and demanded to see mine, I've have told him to bite my ***.
