Highbeam said:One problem, the water gets into the mechanism and freezes the ratchet shut so that you can't tighten them or loosen them until it thaws out.
Even though it is commonly known that I am definitely NOT a fan of Harbor Fright stuff, I would like to point out that the freezing that Highbeam mentioned is not something that only the Chinese binders do. All ratcheting binders, high quality U.S. made or cheap Chinese made, can freeze if they are wet.
As I mentioned before, I am completely convinced that U.S. made binders will be made of higher quality steel and will be of better quality. However, I have NOT had any problems with the exact same Chinese made binders that Highbeam uses. Good luck!
Shh, don't tell, it will ruin my image, but I would not hesitate to use 1/2" grade 70 Chinese made (as cheap as you can find anywhere) chain with the 1/2" Chinese made fold over or ratcheting binders to hold on any tractor that weighs less than 10k. Although I am obviously very pro-U.S., using 1/2" Chinese in place of 3/8" U.S. does not worry me at all.
