One issue that arises with the parallel ones is a poor ground to the engine block.

Rust starts to grow and, over time, the metal to metal contact between the threads is no longer present and the GP, although still good, no longer heats. When one of 3 fails to heat, it may take you awhile to realize it.

With the series wired, if there is a problem you know it immediately.

I really do like the grid heater like on my truck better than glow
plugs.

All my Kubotas and Kiotis had glowplugs, and all my Deeres (Yanmar) had intake heaters. The latter were
direct-injection. I have never replaced a bad glow plug, and I doubt that all would fail at once.

I just was working on my first marine diesel, an early 60's Volvo Penta one-cyl. It has NEITHER
heater nor GPs. It is a direct-injection engine with 5 piston rings, 3 comp, 2 oil. Interesting.
