Rake Harley rakes - why so much?

/ Harley rakes - why so much? #61
Finally got some time to get online so I just thought I'd chime in! As Rat stated earlier I have a 6' Harley pro rake that has been fitted with a carbide tipped roller instead of the standard bar roller. After a season and a half of use ther is almost NO noticeable wear. The carbide tips do a much better job of tilling and pulverizing the ground, renovating existing lawn areas, and to me leaves a more desireable seed bed than the bars do. They also work much better when used in extremely hard packed ground, such as process or gravel drives or clay ball fields. The other great thing about the Harley rake is that the manufacturer ,Glen-Mac , really stands behind the product and is more than willing to supply parts and answer any questions one might have, which is more than most companies do these days! In my opinion it has been the one most valuable implement I ever purchased and has paid for itself 100 times over!

Hey Tags, great to hear from you. You haven't missed much as it's been very quiet lately. I can get the carbide roller for my Pro 8 for about $1600 plus shipping.

MLB, whats tractorluver talking about?

Rat, my boss came in this morning and was bragging about this unit a guy is using on his neighbors 3.5 acre yard.
Said it looked like a land plane came in and leveled it.
The guy didn't want to tell him what it was, it had NO labels, but as they talked he told him it was an ATI preseeder, he painted over everything so the competetion doesn't know what it is.
He's in lawn business and used a Landpride tiller to tear up all the yard first (was hayfield and orchard for years) then ran the ATI over it.
He used a large rubber track skid loader to pick up the windrows.
He was using a TC45D to run it.

Hoeman, any chance of some pictures?

Anyone know how they compare to the Harleyrake?

Some nice features on the ATI

http://www.abcgroff.com/ic/ati1.htm

Features Direct-Drive Rotor - Gives higher production with lower maintenance. The hydraulic motor mounts inside the rotor, eliminating reduction chains, sprockets, gears, or bearings.
Electric-Powered Angling - Provides higher production. A full 100% of the skid steer's hydraulic flow goes to the ground, where it is needed. A separate, simple 12V hydraulic power unit allows you to angle the machine independently of rotor rotation.
Wheels or Rear Roller? - It's your choice. Wheels allow easier maneuverability over rough terrain. The rear roller provides a smooth, more attractive seedbed.
Rubber Shields - Both front and rear give you increased safety and reduced dust. Containment of stones and dust gives the operator more pleasant working conditions.
Isolator Hitch Mount - Decreases noise and vibration via a rubber shock-bushing in the main hitch connection.
Depth Changes On-The-Go - Adjustments can be made by tilting the skid steer's bucket cylinders as conditions demand.

The ATI looks interesting, but it isn't different enough to do a substantially different job than the Harley. THey also cost just as much and don't have anywhere close to the same amount of "good will" as Harley.

The other weird thing is none of the pics for the ATI shows it doing NEARLY as nice a finish job on soil prep. The pics that guys here posted of a Harley job look better (nicer) than ATI's promotional literature! Is it that "spiral" pattern of the teeth on the roller?
