Rake Harley rakes - why so much?

Rat's has the steel bars and the other one has the carbide teeth.
The ATI has larger carbide teeth and does a good job in old sod.
The bars don't work as well in sod or weedy stuff.
ATI has a 725 model demo for $7550 list and new are $8389 list, and the dealer in Circleville (75 miles away) has a demo model too but I haven't been able to hook up w/ him and get the real price.
ATI was real good on phone and HIGHLY suggested getting a Harley demo at same time at my place to see the difference.
ATI says u will see theirs is better.
It does have some added features over Harley and longer life of the inserts.
The ideal set-up would be to have a seeder on the ATI in front of the roller, basicly one pass yards.

I wasn't even aware of ATI's product, thanks for the update. Harley had a tipped roller originally that was not carbide and wore out rather quickly. Tags (TBN memebr) has a carbide roller on his Pro 6 that he retrofitted. He pulled the 6' bar roller and installed the tipped carbide and says the wear even after use on gravel roads has been very minimal. Your right, the tipped is going to be the way to go especially for renovating grass areas. Since I already have a 8' Harley, I plan on sticking with it but if your in the market, ATI and others should all be examined.

I saw a Piranha brand of power rake at a dealer a while back.
Looks similar in design to the Landpride and Harley rakes.
Has anyone seen or used one of these(can't find a website), and how does the price compare to the others.
I've seen the Harley rakes in action and they sure do work nice, but the prices on power rakes is awful !!

I see that Woods makes a power rake also.I saw one sitting in the yard the last time I was at my tractor dealer.I would think the cost wouldn't be any cheaper though as Woods is kind of pricey,but you never know.

No doubt they are expensive. But they are more than just a "power pulverizer".

The Harley Rake:

Grades and levels, especially with an 8'.

Collects debris either in rows or pull it along with the endplates.

Pulverizes the soil and creates a perfect seed bed.

You can work very dry soil and wet soil.

I use it to level out fresh gravel or chew up a pot holed graveled road.

Harley claims you can even dethatch lawns with it. I assume they mean on the smaller models due to larger machine weight.

All this can be done in as little as 1 to 2 passes, depending on soil and debris conditions.

The Harley rake is built very tough. I will break something on my tractor before the rake will break.

Attached are some pictures of a job that I did just last week. Extremely rocky, worst I have ever seem. By looking at the pictures what would you use to do the job?

The pictures do not really show the larger rocks that are just underneath the surface the excavator "pressed" in.
