Has anybody tried the Hi Point handguns?

Personally, I think for seldom fired, self protection in a panic situation, a revolver is by far the best.

While I prefer semi-auto's, I would tend to agree with the above statement. Most people can make a revolver go bang. Not everyone understands how or has the strength to put a semi-auto into operation.

I prefer semi autos as well.

I know the thread wandered a bit, but where you liked the 1911 in 45, GSG/ATI makes a decent one that has a 22 conversion. A step up in price over hi point but I have the 22, and it has the same frame as the 45. Finish isn't polished, but very good, and you get a cheaper trainer.

Those I've seen before and suspected it was copied off of that design. Great movies!

I have a broomhandle mauser that my Grandfather brought back from WW1. However, I don't have the wooden holster that attached to make it like a carbine. It's a wicked gun for sure. :D I also have a french semi auto he came back with, very old shoots .32 if I remember correctly. Been awhile since I fooled with it.

When we got married we bought a Hi Standard (not Hi Point) 9 shot .22 short barrel revolver. It has a .22 long rifle and .22 magnum cylinder. No safety. Double action. The wife and I practiced with it quite a bit. I figured it was about as simple as you can get. Nothing to think about, no safety to remember, etc... and I felt comfortable with her having that if I had to be away.

My wife has shot my .45 but just from the shear size she doesn't like too, I bought her the Bersa 380

I have a sig p230 and my friend a bersa.. unfortunately, their slide springs are just too much for my wifes hands.

Do you remember Han Solo's "blaster" in the original Star Wars? It was a slightly modified Mauser "broomhandle" 96. A prop, yes, but still made from a real "ugly" pistol.

them are nice guns. actually many of their guns and weapons were common item props. flash batteries for light sabers.. etc.. :)

you can get repop holsters and frogs if your broom ( or bolo ) still has the attachment iron slot, and it hasn't been welded and milled.

I know this thread is about Hi Points but revolvers have been brought up. Was it by me? Don't remember, getting old. Anyway, does anybody have experience with the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo? The reviews I have read say that it was developed with the NYPD for backup S&W snubbies. Supposed to have less recoil, less flash, and expand at lower velocities. Designed to be the best in -2" barrels. Any info?

Seems like this would be ideal for a woman's gun.
