does anyone know how to look up the serial numbers on JD's website to check out warranty info? I haven't heard from my dealer yet to see if my tractor is still under warranty. I was wondering if there was a place for me to check myself.

Not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

No. You have to do this through a dealer-any dealer.

I've had this happen twice before on other brand tractors. The cause of failure, I was told, is that it's designed to take the bulk of its stress being pushed inward, not outward away from the tractor. Both times I had my blade flipped around backward, and had been pushing backward when it happened, which stressed it in the weak direction and broke.

Update.....found out that my warranty expired on March 25,2010. Three days after the break. It's now in the hands of the JD rep. He's out of town untill the 6th of April. My dealer forwarded the pictures to the rep. I'm hoping they go for it.

Great news!!! JD is going to replace my housing!! Dealer told me today. The JD rep said that is was a bad casting and they would pay to replace it at no cost to me. Kudo's to John Deere for standing behind their product and a HUGE thanks to Mark Ross at Limestone Farm Lawn & Worksite for standing up for me.
