Hauling A BX23

WE have some people that have gone with the 12' trailer for the B X22's and have been happy. The 14' single axle gives more room to balance it out and still keeps you away from the brakes. It does normally require a 1/2 ton or simuliar truck to do a good job with towing it as you need the extra heft because you don't have brakes. The 16' and larger trailers are nice but I think a waste for this outfit. You should always remember just because the trailer is legal to tow with the load, the towing veichle has to be too!!!! No Yugo's with 16' landscape trailers guys!

I have a customer that two years ago bought a BX2200, This spring he went for the BX22 and later this year he bought a Cadet 4x2 Big Country. This fall while his wife was looking for the wheel barrow for doing some weeding she learned the merits of the purchase of the Big Country and how much easier it was to do the weeding and have a ride instead of fighting with that wheelbarrow. Well she became quite confident of her operating skills with the Big Counrty she was soon to start out on the BX with the Backhoe. Funny as Her husband was more nervous then she was as she loaded the back of the Big Country with the backhoe and never touched it for two loads of toposoil she wanted! I'm working on them for his and hers units but I'm not doing well as he's mad at me for suggesting that she could operate it!

I would definitely NOT haul a BX22/23 with a 4x8 utility trailer. I use a 16ft tandem axle car hauler (attachment). Sure, you might be OK as some have offered, then again, with a 4x8 rig you are risking the pulling vehicle, trailer, and load if sudden stop/swerve is necessary. Pulling at steady speed on level road is usually no big deal. Stopping, hills, and idiots on the road are big deals (especially here in SOCAL). Be safe, use WAY more trailer than you need.

Rich, I'm looking at buying a Big Tex trailer like the one in your attachment. How is the clearance when loading the tractor? I am concerned that there would be clearance problems when loading the BX22 with the MMM attached due to lack of beavertail. Have you had any problems? Advice is more than welcome. Thanks.

"As it was, when I asked the salesman how much they charge for delivery, he gave me a funny look and said, 'It's free.'

...

They'll bring it out on Monday!!!

Oddly, my wife was more excited after we signed the papers than I was. She said, 'Now we can do all that landscaping we've been talking about.'"

--------

Good dealer support is worth its weight in gold -- sounds like you are working with good folks there. My dealer delivered my BX23, came back a couple of days later to top up the hydraulic fluid and left me with an extra bottle of Super UDT "just in case" (no charge), and will deliver and set up several implements for me when they come in early next month.

My wife had the same reaction. I think she is feeling sorry for all those years I have spent leaning on a shovel for her landscape projects. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The BX23 backhoe is almost a surgical instrument. Although this is my first experience with a BH, I have quickly learned how to do the basic operations. I find that I can strip sod easily to the desired depth, for example. Our first flower bed effort was a little rough, but on the second one I used the BH to strip sod and drop it into a small dump trailer hooked to our JD 108 (8 hp mower, 25 years old, on its second engine, transmission, seat, and front axle). Then I used the BH to spade up the soil, digging out each scoop to loosen it, then dropping it back in place. Then I used the FEL to bring in more dirt to bring the bed back up to level.

I think the BX23 is the best landscaping tool ever invented. Certainly better than an Idiot Stick!

Idiot Stick: n. A stick, pole, rod, handle, etc., usually with a metal implement (shovel, hoe, rake, etc.) on one end and an idiot on the other. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Check out Deen Implement.

It's funny how they can have a nice page for the BX23, but Kubota can't...

None of the pictures on that page are actually of the BX23, though. They are the BX22 model.
