Emilio's is the best Italian eatery of its type in the area. If you have time check it out. Even has a great place to eat outside if warm enough

thanks Buppies, I'm headed out now to Kathy's, allegedly the best breakfast spot in town.
It's pretty commercial looking though, kinda wanted a greasier spoon...

Last night Wingsprd and his lovely wife met me for dinner and we had a delightful time getting to know each other.
What nice people.

Looks like a good time! I just love finding good eateries! But, it seems really good coffee is harder to find than good food. Places just seem to skimp on coffee. So, we have our coffee at home first...

Daugen - lots of great eating and socializing going on there.... thanks for keeping us apprised.

You're right about the coffee Mac..... plenty of places have good or better food, but the ones with great coffee really do stand out.

Had a long and fun day in Staunton VA. Interesting town, lots to see, lot of pride evident in it.
Had breakfast at Kathy's and it was very good. Sat at the counter, had one person to chat with, had thinly sliced sausage patties fried crisply, some eggs and just ok hashbrowns, most of which I didn't eat, because the side order of blueberry pancakes were really good.

The pull through sites are in constant demand here. A new Winnebago diesel pusher slid in next to my spot, a silver haired couple from NJ who looked like they had had a long day. Which I'm sure they had if they pulled in at 5pm.

Rain is coming tonight, so didn't bother washing anything, as I'll be driving in it tomorrow anyway. Also rearranged my stops a bit after the one in Lake Gaston said there largest pull thru was 45 feet. I'm three feet over. So I rescheduled at Carolina Crossings near 95, a little further East.

quite the fifth wheel trailer next to me, pulled by a Chevy Kodiak with a custom sleeper.

I loved the name and the shiny white paint on that tiny post office of Mint Springs.

Mac, the fifth wheel is made by a company named Newmar, after I kind of peered around the guy's motorcycle on back. Older couple, looks like they either live aboard or have been doing this a long time.

The rain started to come down last night with a few showers, then just poured most of the night. Pouring now, though starting to get light out.
Going to leave well after 9am, no sense going out in the rain early and really annoy the get to work crowd. Headed to the smallest campground on my list, only twenty spaces, and only two that will allow a pull thru. GPS wants to take me down 81, I'm choosing a route further East down smaller roads. A week from now I have reservations "on the beach" at Cape Carteret NC, going to stay there three days and simply relax and walk the beach. So this week I am headed East towards the coast, so I'll get a dose of flat land for awhile.

One thing I learned quickly was to take the cruise control off on any type of hill. I just have to slow down a little, like many of the trucks, because while I could keep the speed up, the trans will drop down into 3rd, and the tach hits low 4's and that's no way to drive. So I'm learning to slow down and find a speed/combo where it will hold the revs at 3500 on hills, and then drop down to 2000 at cruise. On flat land the rig just hums along at 60-62, I just don't go any faster. What's the point?....

this next stop is one I will likely not take the car off for, particularly in the rain, for sure. It's a place "in the woods" where I can take the time to wash the rv, finish organizing stuff inside, though I am making slow progress.

Sending out a few post cards today to elderly friends. Older folks just love post cards....and these two don't have the internet.

Rain finally reached us about a half hour ago. A peak at the radar doesn't look good for you. Drive slow and carefully.

thanks, weather now says over an inch has fallen and they expect another inch, lot of water. Luckily the motorhome has big tires and the vw is going to follow behind whether it likes it or not...;)

both flood and freeze warnings out for Penhook VA, my destination for today. This too shall pass.

Hopefully your car can come off on next stop lots of neat things to see and do. SML is very large and lots of things to see. Dam tour is worthwhile and area is steeped in history. Franklin county moonshine Capitol of world. You might like what you see and want to come back
