3rd function is definitely an option and a PITA to not have when doing loader work. So that's a good thing. I am looking into replacing my 3120 with a 110 come springtime and knew about the 110 switching from front to rear controls - I wonder why they couldn't do that for the standard compacts as well? Guess that's just how it is.

I am pretty sure the 400CX has more capacity as well. Only a couple hundred more, it seems like a no brainer to me. Here is an older thread that shows some of the differences. If you scroll to the bottom you can see the "similar threads" and click on them to get more comparisons. Too me it seems like a no brainer - for $600 you get more lift and self leveling.

The "creep to reposition" feature is only available on the 110. Not a 4000 series option.

Based upon posts from new users here on TBN it appears that the new electro-hydraulic 3rd SCV on the FEL is a toggle switch on the joystick - like the 110. Great option!

Yes, the CX loader has more lift capacity than the X model.

Akfish, did you check with a dealer on that? I found a press release online from late last year that stated it would now be available. I found it on a Deere dealer website, after reading it in a post like this one... not that both are correct necessarily.... As I contemplate possibly having a backhoe on it in the future it seems like a no-brainer to get it up front if it can't be installed at a later date (just like power beyond)

i have the rear pyo hydraulic powerpack unit with a loader mounted snowblower....... LOVE it. wirks great and no more sore neck. Can blow off 7 foot piles of snow if need be (when my buildings shed off)'

heres a little vid i posted last thanksgiving.... before all teh snow melted off. This was a 9-10" blow.

not that this has anything to do with the OP's question...but i sure do like to sidetract everyone :)

Well now I'm side tracked:D The loader mount is the way to go IMO. That's what I'd do if we ever needed them as we have had 1! measurable snow here in Michigan that melted in about a day. OKAY, now we are really off topic:eek:

We just bought our John Deere 4520 in August. It's an awesome machine.

Things you might look at adding some I know are mentioned but I have these on ours.

-Horn Kit
-Rear Wiper
-Rotating Beacon Light
-Rear Work Lights (A must)
-3rd SCV (Now Electro-Hydraulic) - Have used it on our own built log grapple & Hydraulic Frontier Rear Blade - Love it! It is a toggle switch on the joystick and is easy to install yourself if you are capable & want to save money.
-Front Fenders (Work Great)
-Rear Fenders
-Air Ride Seat
-Rear Tires Filled & Possibly Weights
-Hood Guard (Standard or Deluxe - Your preference)
-Side Mirrors

We first looked at a 4320 and decided to move to the 4520. The Auto Throttle alone is worth the price difference - Works wonders when doing loader work. You will enjoy the increased horsepower. - Never heard of anyone having too much power. :)

Get as many cab filters you can for the dealer to throw in if possible.
And might as well get a filter pack while your there if you go through with the purchase. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions with the 4520 in general.

Edit: I also have the 400CX loader. Great lift capacity - Get any extra ballast you can. You would never regret that. Good Luck!

Red Horse - I have a mix of grapple work I do - sometimes it is rocks or logs, other times logs and true brush. There are enough times when I have a bucket on that having something to "grab" with would be handy, mostly for the trail work I do (it would be very time consuming to run back for the other implement).

Capacity wise, from the charts I've seen it looked like the CX had more capacity, not less - am I misreading something?
10-4, I hear you on the mixed use.

as for capacity I guess my problem is I'm looking at old literature (DKA94(05-01). It lists 400X at 2368 lbs and 400 CX as 2194 lbs. And in looking at all the pix, while non show the "400CX" logo, non of the loaders in the pix have the leveling arms as the 400CX has-so I guess the 400 CX has been upgraded.

Good thing I wasn't taking bets!

I just purchased a 4520 myself. I was considering the 4320 with a cab, but I found that the 4520 seems to be the "sweet spot" for power, features and functionality. I have attached the dimensions for 4x20 cab and open station if you happen to need them.

I have 26 to 30 acres of open meadows and woods, so I did not go with side mirrors because I did not want to hit a limb with them and the Cab already comes with a standard rear view mirror. However, your woods might be more open than mine.

I would also make sure you get one or two hooks welded or bolted on the bucket for free. I usually get a hook on both sides of the bucket.

Additionally, the new Electrohydraulic Third SCV Kit comes with the new ergonomic loader handle with thumb button switch to make using the a 4-in-1 bucket or grapple bucket easier. I am going to to use it for my rear snow blower's chute initially.

FYI - You might have issues getting this tractor from a lot. It seems this configuration is in high demand. My dealer could not get a 4520 anywhere so he had to order it from the factory. If your dealer is large, they should already have preexisting factory orders for this tractors and the lead from the factory should only be month or less.

Hmm... when I was using the "Build your own" for the 2012 model's that was not an option. All the new EH stuff for the additional SCV's was - nothing at all related to the "creep to reposition".

Very nice to see that Deere has included it for the later 2012's. Who knows.... with the 110 being discontinued - maybe Deere will eventually "upgrade" the 45-4720 models to fill that market niche!

A 110 style loader and backhoe on the 4720 chassis/engine with 30gpm-3000psi hydraulics and comfort cab! Whoa... I know what my next tractor would be!!!

Thank you all for your replies - it has helped me refine my list quite a bit.

For those of you that have purchased 4000 20 series recently, if you are comfortable with it would you mind PMing me what you paid? I'm assuming with all the options listed, including the 4-1 bucket SSQA bucket and conversion items around 45k if I'm lucky (Builder price is 56k), and likely closer to 50k if they give me a good deal on my trade in. This doesn't include the price of a replacement grapple, nor a Landplane or brush hog....
