Heated Tailgates on Ford Pickups

But don't try to move it anyplace where traction might be an issue. You'll be out of luck quick. It won't even move across my front lawn if there is dew on the grass.

You got that right, Ozarker! I stuck my diesel F250 four times in the first six months I owned it before I figured that out! Now I know it's limitations and stay on hard surfaces. Even so, I love my truck...

Of course you are right Bird. If they get drug no need for a heated tailgate.
But due to personal observations I know Ford is the Leader of Trucks. When cycling in the mountains during vacation season everytime I was going up a long steep gradient there would be a whole string of vehicles pass me. Everytime there was a Ford pulling a tent trailer leading them. Next came the chevy's with campers on them and finally, bringing up the rear, a group of Dodge's pulling 5'th wheel trailers.

I always get a kick out of seeing a Chevy on a Ford flatbed...

I wouldn't get out of an Electric Chair, to drive a Chevy or a Dodge.

Actually, the way I heard the joke originally was " Why do Yugos have heated back glass?" :)

Are you picking on my old truck, Scott?
Heck ... it's 24 years old ... and still does what I ask it to. Just drove 300 miles to pick up my old GoldWing in Chicago. Starting sounding a little rough when I got there ... and I thought maybe the heat was affecting it ... but after I loaded the bike ... made it through that horrendous traffic (is there any time of the day that it is traffic-jam-free?) ... and stopped for gas in Indiana ... and discovered that one of the plug wire had pulled up on the distributor cap. Smooth sailing back home ... with a 900 pound bike in the back and cruison' at 80- plus .... except for a 1 hour traffic jam in Lansing!

A heated tailgate? Nah ... think I'd rather have a hydraulic tailgate life ...

I have probably owned and driven more used trucks than most here. I drive a Chevy Tahoe as my regular "car" and have an old Ford F-450 dump truck I keep out at the farm. If I need a pickup I usually grab one of the Dodge Rams or a Chevy.

I think Ford does make a great work truck. For me, the newer ones don't have near enough leg room and They also seem to ride a little rougher than the others. The Chevy has the nicest ride by far while the Dodge has some really nice creature comforts.

All in all, I don't think any are superior or inferior to the others. It just boils down to your use, your tastes and your preferences. A lot of that is based on good or bad experiences you've had or heard about. None of these manufacturers wants to build anything but a good truck.

I agree totally.....I started this thread ...just for fun....I never was one to sit an argue vehicles....whatever I can get the best buy on and does what I need is all I care.
I have a 93 Chevy 4x4 C-1500 work truck...75000 miles on it.I use to drive it to work...but thought what the hey..I don't need to have this thing on the road all the time,so I bought the old 86 Olds and run back and forth and save the truck for when I need to haul something or pull my trailers.Besides that the Olds has nice cold a/c where as the truck has no air.
We have a Mercury for a family car...

Hey Scott,

How is the paint job holding up on your '93 Chevy truck? My last truck was a '93 GMC Sierra and it had the crappiest excuse for a paint job of any vehicle I ever owned. By the time I traded it in two years ago about 10% of the paint had flaked/ peeled off and there was rust up and down the seams on the roof.

I understand that there was a problem with the undercoat on Chevy and GMC pickups for a three or four year stretch during the early 90's. It is easy to pick them out on the road -the peeling paint job is a dead give away.

My GMC pickup was very dependable and gave me many years of enjoyable driving but looked horrible. That sorry paint job was one of the reasons I went with Ford this last time.
