I heat 100% with wood. My house is about 1600 sq ft, and about 2400 with the upstairs that we do not use, but I live in ice cold New Hampshire and on the coldest nights in the winter with the wind wipping, my house still stays about 80 degrees throughout. That is only with the blower fan on the back of the stove. We bought a US stove model#2000 last year from Tractor Supply, and I only paid $450.00 on sale with the blower. It is an EPA stove, so it re-burns the gasses in it. They also give you a tax credit for buying this type of a stove. I went from burning about 6-7 cords a winter to 3 cords. It is messier, and not as convient as a pellet stove, but it is great heat, and we never have any smoke, or smell of smoke in the house. I split my own wood, and I have heated 100% free the past 4 years. The only splitter I have is a $300 electric 5 ton Homelite splitter, and I am able to split 24in oak no problem. I am going to invest in a 3 point splitter this year, but that one has worked great. If you can splitt the wood, and don't mind burning it, it would or "wood" save you a ton of money depending on what you have for forest in your area.
