heavy exhaust smoke w/ decreased power

I should have never said anything, :) now my CEL is on. :(

Yeah, happens to me too! (have praises for something and then it goes wonky! :muttering:) Hoping that you get it resolved easily and quickly (will be watching).

Thanks for the info and it will drop down as low as -40 here in Fairbanks. Most of the time it will be-20 or above when it snows.

Look at Zetor Major. No electronics, no regen needed. I think.

A "solution" to a non problem?

Zetor Major is a Tier II, which means, yes, no DPF. But, it's CR (Common Rail), which means it has to have electronics: also has a turbo, which will require, most likely, electronic control too.

Panic over DPFs is overblown. I suffered this for a bit until I did actual research. If one operates their diesel engine as one should for just about any diesel engine then it's a non-issue. And in a colder environment it's more of a given that one is going to be running a bit harder (in order to keep things warmer), in which case that should address regen frequency concerns. And unless it's a pre-tier III engine it's going to have an EGR system, and those systems are almost too happy to clog up if you don't run with higher RPMs (and if turbos, higher boost): I've got some older VW diesels, ALH TDIs, and am very familiar with EGR issues- I keep the EGR systems intact, opting to follow the proper operating guidelines that I've mentioned (include proper oil and fuel [later is a non-issue anymore with ULSD]).

Nobody in the state of Alaska sells Zetor Major. It will be bad enough that the closest Kioti dealer will be 350 miles away. Fairbanks only has a Kubato and John Deer dealer and both of them are crazy expensive plus they don't give 2****s about the small guys.

"winters are long and cold here in Fairbanks Alaska."

That's OK, they are in Korea also! I would think Kioti has a bunch of experience there.

Even though Zetor Major is considered lighter (and cheaper) tractor by the manufacurer it will be still going when Kioti will be already dead. Major has Carraro axles and gearbox coupled to Zetor engine while Forterra and Proxima are in house heavy duty design. Zetor has promotion doing (I think) till lend of the month. You get free loader.

I have a similar issue: I only have 24 hours on my Kioti CK3510 and was not aware of any passive regen occuring while using the tractor. I got an error, "cel" and according to the manual, the DPF needs to be replaced (or cleaned). I removed the DPF to inspect it, and found it to have a little soot, but not so much that I would think it was clogged. I am beginning to suspect one or both of the sensors are faulty. Can I pull both sensors and start the motor to see if the problem goes away? Or will that possibly cause damage to the motor?

You shouldn't need to have anything relaced. The tractor needs a Regen cycle. The tractor will not regen if the cel light is on. This means the tractor had been ready to go into auto-regen, but auto-regen was cancelled twice. Auto-Regen will be cacelled if the tractor rpm's drops below 1700rpm any time auto regen is asked for. Sometimes you can start the tractor cold, have no cel light and get the tractor to do a manual regen. Start the tractor at idle, set the parking brake, and push and hold the regen button for 3 seconds. If you see the "regen in process" light on the dash, you have a good chance the regen process will complete. Manual regen takes about 43 minutes. If it won't complete the regen, call your dealer. He has a way to force the regen and get the tractor back to a clean condition.

In the future, make sure you ALWAYS operate the tractor above 1800rpm. If the tractor wants to do an automatic regen, it needs two paramemters:

1800 engine rpm
exhaust manifold heat

If it sees these 2 conditions are satisfied, it will go into auto-regen on it's own and complete the regen cycle. The only thing you really notice in the regen-in-process light on the dash. Auto regen generally takes less than 10 minutes. But...if the engine rpms drop below 1700 during the process, it will cancel the regen. The tractor will allow 2 "cancels", then throw the cel light and reduced power.

Best way to operate the tractor is at 1800rpm or above all the time. The tractor will take care of itself and you should never need to do a manual regen.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the explanation about the regen with the how the electronics sees the two parameters needed for an auto regen. Mine is older, no regen, but this should help many with the new style. A manual regen should be solidly enabled in the system if needed because not everybody needs 1800rpm for their work like using the bh. Meaning, I shouldn't have to call the dealer if I missed two auto regens. I should be able to do a manual regen without fail and go back to work.
