Hi Choko, its been exceptionally wet in Yarra Glen area too...the way it was about 15 years ago. You would need to check our silly planning laws in Victoria as you might need to get a permit if you want to have more than 5 animals on your property.

The proposed new planning laws are out for discussion till the 21st September 2012 and i urge all farmers to read and either support or put in your own ideas, so we dont get over run by the extreme greenie ideas which still seem to favour keeping farms sizes large enough so only the Asians can afford to buy the farms, but not our own smaller aspirational eco farmers who only need or can afford 1 Ha. It is about time in Victoria that the policies of the dear departed Liberal Party Premier Sir Rupert Hamer be dropped to allow private owners of GREEN WEDGE ZONED land be used for smaller farm sites.

The coming out of Lady Hamer yesterday to continue private land controls on Green Wedge Zoned land on the outskirts of the Melbourne Metropolitan area reminded us all how socialistic Sir Rupert Hamer and the Liberal Party really where 40 years ago and how they believed in Planned economies to the extent of dispossessing land owners of their natural rights by creating GWZ land and to which enough Liberals still believe and side with the extreme Greenies in the suburbs who are anti-everything. Lady Hamer and her daughter being the Patron of the extreme left wing of the Greens movement in the suburbs should be enough evidence of where some of the older Liberals seem to be stuck even though they deny being socialists by allowing their Liberal Party to continue the restrictions we landowners are enduring today.

The Liberals need to look at themselves as we dont want them to RULE us; we want them to govern in a true spirit which free markets offer. We landowners dont want to be continued to be stopped from developing our land into smaller 1 Ha sites for eco farming, or for more tourism ideas, after all how much privately owned open space would be covered with houses and garages on a 1 Ha site even if you restricted house footprint sizes to a 150m2 and garages/barns 150m2. There would still be huge tracts of private open space which I would think would be better than allowing Councils to steal more private land for public open space. Why does the Yarra Valley still need more open space as the Greenies argue when 55% is already Cown Land as Parks and forests? Some of the Liberal Party members and most of the ALP are living in the dark ages if only we could re-train them into more modern free market thinking instead of waiting for them to die off.

I urge Liberal Party members who claim to support free enterprise businesses to have a hard look at themselves and their ideas of serving their supporters with a few scraps of changes without going for the whole [hog] suite of free market ideals. WAKE UP LIBERALS.

Liberals have ruined this Country also, so you're prechin to the choir. Liberals live to tell people what to do, what to say, how to act, what to eat, who gets healthcare and who doesn't, what seasonings to put on your salad, how much to eat, what kind of car to drive, what kind of toilets and light bulbs to buy. Here's a look at the Healthcare everyone wants in England. Butm if your fat or smoke the doctors will not treat you.

In Australia the political party known as the Liberal Party represents the conservative side of politics. They are the closest thing we have to the US Republican Party. The Australian equivalent of the US Democrats is the Labour Party.

FunnelWeb, your correct, but unfortunately the Republicans in USA and the Liberals in Australia still want to RULE us instead of govern for our benefit. Would far better live under a Liberal Government than the big spending big taxing Union controlled Federal Labor Party which is really now controlled and in coalition with the extreme left wing Greens Party which gave us a Carbon Tax.

Unfortunately some of our Liberal Party conservatives in the State of Victoria are tinged with Green power complexes concerned they will lose votes if they give back farm land rights to owners when their previous socialistic Liberal leaders 40 years ago took away the land rights of its owners by designating the land Green Wedge Zone and so now we need a permit for having more than 5 animals, a Planning permit to build a garage/barn which can take up to 2 years although its said in rules it should take 3 months. You cant rent out rooms to others without a new building and occupancy permit or sell off your property to the public any produce you grow. Agriculture was even prohibited on some of this land too. And unless you already have a smaller lot you cant subdivide any 100 Acre farms into smaller farm lots. Some restrictions are going to be removed by our not so Liberal Govt, but imo not enough if you want to call yourself a free enterprise and a pro business party..if you can see my point. I think we and in the USA have different shade of socialism just dressed up differently and where telling political lies is not illegal like when a Corporation lies to its customers it gets fined severely, but when have political parties ever been punished except when the lose at election times?
