I didn't think the rust looked OEM.

Does the bolt go through a notch, or is it merely tightening the yoke around the shaft?

One might be able to add a large fender washer around the PTO shaft as a spacer between the yoke and the guard provided it had something to ride against (is that the part 15 spacer?)

I can't image that you damaged the original yoke on the PTO shaft, but as I just swapped a PTO yoke yesterday, I can attest that they are a pain to swap (especially if all the 37x2 needle bearings fall out).

As I was shopping for PTO shafts two days ago, I quickly learned that not all PTO shafts are made equally. I had to shorten the one I bought slightly (which probably was a bad idea), and when I put the bandsaw hacksaw onto the inner shaft (solid), it didn't hardly scratch the surface.

Anyway, the JD Dealership is probably already thinking of you as the customer from... (oh, I lost the word I was putting here, but Inferno will have to substitute).

But, they should get it "RIGHT".

Are these all original parts? It looks like they have replaced the yoke or forward drive shaft with the wrong one. I think the bolt hole in the yoke should be further forward. Is there any movement, forward or backward, of the shaft in the pedestal? Maybe there is a spacer, key 15 (1st drawing), missing or installed wrong?

I totally agree about the spacer! I was just looking at jdparts.com like 20 minutes ago investigating. No movement anywhere I can tell. I think this explains the squeak I heard, too.

I'm going to try to go to our land this afternoon and I'm just going to take off both shafts and the pedestal and take the whole shebang to the dealer tomorrow AM. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but with the 14mm nut missing by a third I wouldn't know where to begin fixing this in the field.

The bolt with the sheared nut is tightening the yoke. Not sure what you mean by notch?

I fear the same about how the dealer thinks of me. I'm in a small town and my job is one that relies on reputation. My personality is very much non-confrontational. What's worse is that after I spoke with the manager about 10 days ago I had a good feeling a mutually agreeable and fair comprimise would be made. He said he would get back to me. I haven't heard from him, but I got a second copy of the $280 "proforma" invoice on the wheel relocating on Thursday this week. I'm happy with the tractor, but I'm almost afraid to use the cutter out fo fear of damaging it.

Look at key 18 in the drawing. By notch, he means a groove cut all the way around the shaft. The bolt will go in the groove and this keeps the yoke from moving forward or backward on the shaft. Then yoke will not come off by just loosening the bolt, you must remove it.

Thanks for the clarification. I bet it goes through a notch.

I just got back from my land and I took off the front pto shaft, the plate at the top of the pedestal with the bearing, and the front half of the rear pto shaft all in one assembly. After riding home in my truck bed I looked at it again. Now the bolts and nuts that were shearing each other have plenty of clearance!

Something must have shifted on the bumpy ride over. Now I can see the spindle between the front yoke and the bearing - I see no sign of a bushing (#15 from above diagram) between them as the diagram would suggest. Just the splined spindle. I may be wrong bit ill take it to the dealer first thing in the morning.

Don't worry to much about your reputation. After all you bought DEERE which we normally buy at a premium. So it should all work properly and be adjusted and installed correctly from a qualified tech at the dealer. Take back, have them fix the problem. Don't pay for what should be warranty. Its inconvient for them to fix it, but you to as you need to transport and the lose of use. You bought nice new tractor to use, not to be a pita to your dealer, they should know that. Bring it back just get them to fix it. Its business not personnel relationships. Good luck.

after all you're the customer and without customers they don't exist
they should be glad to fix it and not have a dis-grunted customer

and as far as being afraid to use your own equipment, I wouldn't, you didn't buy it to have as a pasture ornament

It was the missing bushing/spacer! Picked up my driveshaft today. The service manager wasn't there and the guy that I talked to didn't know what was done. I told him what had happened and I pointed out that there was obviously now a bushing on the spindle where there wasn't one before. He agreed.

Mistakes happen I get it. What's more important is what the dealer does about the whole situation. We will see. Ill try to put it on in be next couple of days and may sure it's working right.
