This may be the most disturbing thing I've read in my entire life. I stayed up until 4:00 am last night reading this. I hadn't seen the tread before...

I can't even begin to describe how shocked I was at the jury's verdict. It sounds like you have been the victim of a scam. I wonder if 20/20 or Dateline would be interested in doing a special on this? This is just the kind of nightmare that most folks would trust the courts to settle in a logical manner.

My prayers are with you. In Texas, you can have a primary residence with homestead exemption and they can't touch it. Wages can't be garnished either.

Florida also totally protects your home (I hear thats why OJ moved there)
In California you get to keep about 40K as a homestead excemption - not even a down payment here.

Easy for us to say, but FIGHT ON ! This is such an injustice that something must be done. Call the ACLU, or talk to some law school profs, somebody must be able to see the clear injustice done here and suggest a counterattack. Maybe a new lawyer would have some ideas about appels to the next level.

I know California can be a bit wacky, but this stretches the bounds of normal thinking.

If it was me I'd also start looking into filing for bankruptcy. Not sure what the laws are like out there but I would hate to give away mine and my kids future to people like that.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen this thread. After having read through I'm sick at the thought of what you must be going through. I can't comprehend that andybody sane, reasonable and moral could award anybody nearly half a million dollars based on what you've written here. I sincerely hope what goes around comes around and that the lawyers, judges, jury members and the indidual who launched the suit all get their own turn in your shoes.

This I say with no disregard for my American neighbors but what you call a legal justice system down there must have some serious problems and I feel truely fortunate that the same type of legal mentality has not pervaded the less than perfect Canadian legal justice system. I also feel truely blessed for the very good neighbors I have.
