Help in choosing implements correctly

/ Help in choosing implements correctly #21
I always see alot of folks talking about "dozing" stumps or digging 'em out with a backhoe. This is alot of work in my mind.....especially for trails and food plots.

Around here we have alot of pine trees and pine stumps. They are quite soft woods and easy to grind. I rented a stump grinder and ground up over 400 stumps (from 12 to 15" diam or so) out of our trails and food plot. I ground this many over a three day period at a cost of $500. That works out to about $1,25 per stump......and you dont have allot of stumps to burn or bury either. ;)

If you have pine stumps.....something to consider. :)

I vote "RENT THE DOZER"!!!!

I rented a Dozer over a decade ago, to clear land, put in a pond/lake, driveway and grade arround the new house.
8hr (one day rental) was all it took and I could have done more the 2nd day if needed as with practice it got easy to do just about anything with moving dirt etc. Way powerfull tool!

As you have found it's a lot of work to clear land and put in trails by hand with a tractor. But that's why you got the tool and maintaining the land is where the tool comes in the most handy!

If time or effort is the issue, I say rent the Dozer and have fun removing stumps, clearing land and putting in the trails. It will make quick work of it.

Then you can start using your Tractor for "Maintaining".

I spent $480 for a One day rental Cat Dozer, about this size:
1987 CAT D4 Dozer - Crawler For Sale At MachineryTrader.com

I suppose it's more now, but for the work you can get done... well worth it.
