My PHD doesn't work very well .. I'm convinced it's limiting itself... the geometry simply won't let it go any deeper... I need an extension... right?

wftree - you know those augers were never meant to drill through bedrock, right? :)

While not bedrock, Caliche, Ironpan, and Duripan are among the hardest hardpans. While they do not require rock drilling gear, they can be augered with a standard tractor PTO driven PHD if they have two things: downpressure and carbide tips and teeth. The link below is to a post where I show my less expensive method of downpressure. The following post on the subsequent page shows my Pengo auger with carbide bit and teeth.
