Yes sir,,,it does appear that chain brake is indeed good,,,,went and got a regular, chisel type chain,,the one that was on it,,was an anti kick back type,,it didn't have any fewer teeth, like I said,or don't think so after comparing it to non kick back type,,,its got an addition between teeth,a piece thats almost as high as teeth,,,guess this stops you from getting to solid a bite?????,,,any ways,,it would probably be alright,,,except,,as teeth wore you would need to file that thingamachiggy down as well,,looks like..

Got another related question,,might make a new post,,but evidently there are some smart people reading this one so...spark arrester screen,Question,,will it hurt anything[motor],to just take it out? Somebody said on here they did,,looks like it will eventualy glog up,,and as a result cause more harm to motor if it was just gone to begin with??My old saw and old weedeater didn't have them and I ain't set woods on fire yet,,,I'm thinking on just taking them out of both now,,,unless there is a possibility of harming motor,,,can't figure out how it could harm motor by removing a screen from exhaust though??? Any advice here???? thanks,,thingy

I've removed all the spark arrestors on all our Stihl & Husky saws so that they don't clog.,

However a spark could always start a fire depending on the location, humidity, etc. so be careful not to accidentally start a fire.

Thanks, sky,,,think I will take them out of mine as well,,,didn't think there could be any way doing that could harm motor,,,but I've thought simular things on little stupid deals like this before and come to find out for some unthinkable reason that I shouldn't have done it..but on this,,don't see how it could harm anything,,,it should help?,,,will watch for sparks though, can't imagine starting a fire,,,like I said,,havn't yet,,knock on my head.... That tip guard could actually be of service in my situation,,cutting small brush, close to ground,,,but it comes off real easy,,just one little bolt,if you was cutting some trees,,,we'll see, might just glog up with weeds,,,,,if they keep putting new safety features on things,,pretty soon, they will safe out a chain saw,,,chain saw spelled backwards means unsafe thing,,you can only make it so safe and still be a chain saw,,,thingy

A high powered professional chainsaw is perhaps the most dangerous thing that anyone can buy without any license or any proper training, so be careful.

Any new 2-stroke will experience a leaner mix as the motor breaks in. Taking the screen out does the same. What you do is run 5-6 tanks of gas through it, take the screen out, and then have the carb re-adjusted using a tach. A dealer worth a poot should insist on doing this and for free. Don't let anybody tell you they can adjust it by ear.

And it would be smart to run the less aggressive chain during this break-in period.

Well you all, I bought a Stihl MS310 yesterday, brought it home with dealer gas and oil and ran it on some cherry for firewood. As soon as it got warmed up it stopped running. Got to take it back tomarrow to get it right. I tried to adjust the carberator afterward according to manufactures suggestions but no luck. This is disappointing. I have run my Husky for ten years so I am not a total novice with a saw but I cant get it to go: Brand New?

Hicory,,already took screen out of the new saw,,,reckon I should put it back???,,,don't see how it could damage it,,,but,,,no mechanic of any sort,,,thats why I asked,,,have cut nothing with it or even started it since taking it out,,a screen in exhaust would be a little restitive,,maybe that why it would burn leaner if taken out?? Let me know please,,,now the weed eater,[which I also took it out of today],,has been used for 5-6 tanks,,,so its broke in,,,havn't tried to start it either since taking screen out..This is now worrying me so,,,will put them back before running..That new stihl quiting would really piss you off,,,,but its probably something little,,that once taken care of,will be the end of your problem??? Sometimes these new things have a bug in them,,I know that don't help any...thingy

Just take it easy for a few hours, no long idles, no long WOT, and premium gas. Screen ain't no big thing unless it starts to clog, you adjust the carb leaner to compensate, then you clean the screen or take it off without enriching mix. The unknowing will then think their saw is running great, screaming in fact, as they proceed to thermally destroy the motor. Learn quickly how it sounds, how it starts, how the spark plug looks, how it cuts, then if anything changes you know you have a problem.

Fun thing to watch for when you go in for a tuneup, a loser will just start turning jets, a good wrench will clean the filter and plug before tuning, a keeper will insist on replacing both and maybe offer to put the old ones in a bag for you to reuse later if still serviceable.

I just bought a Husqvarna rancher 55 20" bar. Started on about the 5th pull. Says to run about 6 tankfulls through it before you adjust the carb. Had a lot of saws but I bought this one because its light 11 lbs and has 3.3 HP.
