Help please, how to open this hydraulic cylinder?

Late to the party ...

When I am stopped by a mystery like this I take it to the local hydraulics shop to do that one part of the project for me, and show me how they did it. It's worth what it costs to learn how the pro's do it.

The first time I did this I thought they would have a special pin-wrench for getting the end cap off a cylinder. Instead of a big pin wrench they just used a 48" pipe wrench + cheater pipe. Lesson learned, I bought a 48" wrench for the next one.

Hi all. sorry for the delay but I had an issue with my cellphone, so I wasn't able to upload the pic. so, here it is. the wire is a round wire but the gland and the cylinder have two channels to hold the securing wire. from that point on - it was quite easy to take it apart.

Thats a first for me, Never seen the retaining ring inside the port. Usually there is a little slot cut into the side of the barrel.

Here are a couple different styles of cylinder retainers. It seems that each manufacturer has it's own method of retaining the end gland.

btw - the cylinder was produced by "FREICO". found their website. seems that they are located in south america. I've sent them a mail. they didn't even bother to reply.

Ha! Good point! They might only speak Portuguese. Crazy how every cylinder in the world seems to be different and a PITA...

Try Spanish, they're in one of the secondary cities of Ecuador.

But the only references to them are a couple of different third-party lists who want you to make the contact via them. The actual Freico may consider those contact-managers to be scammers and ignore contact via them.

Ambato is a regional center so Freico probably does serve regional hydraulics needs but it seems to be a local hydraulics shop, not a principal manufacturer. There must be some other Freico somewhere that is invisible to the internet.

'Frico' in Brazil is some sort of food services outfit.
