HELP: pto disconnect

   / HELP: pto disconnect #21
Well at first I thought , You MUST NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!!
And now I must apologize for thinking that way. I worked on my uncles farm for years and NEVER had a problem. all the PTO shafts were the push-button type. And you could spin the tractors output shaft to line up the splines . Well I bought a kingkutter finish mower and DAMNED if it doesn't have the safety police coupler on it, pull back push forward, what a pos !! I could NOT spin the mower shaft.( too much drag ) and my new LS tractor with its hydraulic push-button PTO.Damned if I could spin the tractor shaft to line up the splines.I did look at TSC and they have the push-button yokes for around $40. It seems our litigation society has managed to F# up everything ! OOOOhh you might try to hook up a PTO with the tractor running and the PTO on so WE cant have THAT !!! If people were THAT stupid they shouldn't be allowed to breed and make more lawyers !

Was the new PITA pull back push forward thing done for safety reasons?
I can't see that it improves anything. I never tried to push the button the old style while the shaft was spinning.

I can only assume that the push-button worked TOO well , therefore WE ( safety police ) must make it much more difficult. I tried too explain my plight to upper management ( Wife ) that obviously I need a tractor for each implement so I didn't have to go through ALL this stress of fighting the PTO hookup. SHE just doesn't understand !! I then tried the ( well YOU have shoes and purses for each outfit ) :confused:HUH???? THAT DIDN'T GO SO WELL FOR ME !!!! guess I'll Have to figure this out :D

I hate the damned things. I think someone was going overboard with safety. To get hung up in the PTO push button style you would really have to go out of your way or be really stupid, or both.

I dunno about that. My bush-hog has the pushbutton on it and it was a real PITA to attach it to my LK3054...there wasn't enough room inside the PTO shaft shield to get my (rather large) hands in. Finally said screw it & took the shield off. Just have to remember to be careful (I always shut engine off when taking implements on/off).

All I can add is that it used to be somewhat of a struggle to connect PTO shafts on my old Kubota tractor. The flip up PTO shield on the new Kioti makes all the difference in the world.

The push button was an area that could catch loose clothing... and the results are not pretty.

The first time I hooked up my pto, I removed my pto shield and have never thought about putting it back on... and this was with one of kubota's worst tractors, the L2800. My pto would not always disengage (learned that the hard way by started the tractor with the pto OFF - let out the clutch and the tiller that was hooked up on the 3ph proceeded to dig a hole in my barn - not a happy camper).

I would hate to have a PTO that didn't spin freely when turned off. :confused2:
