I think the L2800 is a nice tractor but it is a little "taller" than some of it's competitors.

You may want to look at the TYM tractors. There is some really low pricing on them right now at my Mahindra dealer in Newberg: Valley View Tractor & Equipment,Inc.

The TYM 273 HST with a loader is only around $12K. That's a pretty good deal for a new 27HP tractor with loader and you can get a belly mower.

Wow! that dealership is only about 20 minutes from my house. I'll have to consider this. Do they come with a rotary cutting option?

What about a Magnatrac with a brush hog?

How would it power the hog? That said tracks like this thing has is going to tear up your ground...

you look into the power tracs yet?

I use an atv to pull a swisher mower on my hills. I go sideways on most of them. Sometimes I just have to lean to the high side, sometimes I put both legs on the high side and sometimes I kind of stand and lean to the high side. I am going to make a removable step that will give me a little more leverage for the really steep areas nest to a pond that I can only go sideways. I feel a little more comfortable on the atv because if some thing does go wrong, I can get off it in a hurry. I used to use the bush hog with a tractor and back up the hills and go foreword down the hills. One of the problems is that the tractor would lift the bush hog by the top of the hill and it would leave it about 8" high. It also had a tendency to make cuts in the dirt.

I'd say look at powertrac, steiner etc. on that. Or groundcover that doesn't need to be mowed...

With a tractor I'd think about a winch in the front mount too, like a ski resort winch cat.

Or mow it with a gravely and winch - I'm about to try that on a similarly pitched piece of land. No way in h*ll would you get me to drive a tractor up it, mowing grass should not have that high a chance of death. Sure people do it, and get away with it most of the time, but you are playing with fire.

Our local Charlottesville Power Equipment company had a tractor in its showroom floor that bent in the middle. Had FEL and 3ph and could be obtained with about a 30 hp diesel engine. Don't recall the builder. Think maybe PowerTrak, Ventrac or something of the sort? It's much lower to the ground than a regular tractor.

This is just one mower designed for steep slopes, up to 40 degrees.
SuperSlopeMaster: Commercial Steep Slope MowersWith the ability to cut at a 40° slope, this true “zero turn radius” machine can trim around objects and mow a swath of 72”, without leaving the slope! You will cut more area in a fraction of the time – and with maximum safety.

wow, that thing is cool. Probably costs a shocking amount though.

The beauty of the PT above these other tractors is that they do much more than mow. You have access to a long list of attachments.... Nothing I love more than working on my steep slopes with my backhoe, loader or grapple... These other tractors are very cool (and probably a bit more comfortable) but the TSM Class of PT (1850) will do 45 degree slopes and I would guess something much much steeper...
