Help - want to switch tires/wheels to a bigger size

   / Help - want to switch tires/wheels to a bigger size #21
I put 3240 turfs on my 3200 and everything bolted up no problem. The ratio is near identical for both sets. I found the 3200 turfs to have an undersized width for the work we do. Not sure if the r4s will rub but the turfs worked perfect.

How did you check the ratio?
rScotty

Before I ordered the larger turfs, I used rolling circumference and basic math to compare the L3200 R1s, R3s, and R4s to each other and then to the L3240 R3s. I dont remember the actual numbers but the L3240 R3s ratio fell somewhere in between the ratios of the 3 types of L3200 tires. Once I got the larger turfs I marked both sets of my tires and measured the distance on the ground of one tire revolution and compared the front vs rear and in and out of 4wd for both sets. The turfs had a further distance because they are taller but the front/rear ratio between the two sets of tires was too close to determine any difference. I think the front tires rotated 3ish% faster that the rears. Im not sure if there is an easier way to do this, but this is what made sense to me.

That's excellently done.....a very thorough job. For anyone considering a swap, a spot of wet paint on the tire followed by a drive down a straight dry road provides a convenient way to measure rolling circumference. As Turf King says, you want to stay close to the same front/rear ratio.
A final check of just how right the calculations are is provided by the ease with which a tractor slips into and out of 4WD.
TK, I've developed a preference for turf tires myself - and also prefer the look and action of the extra wide balloon turfs. For the few times when turf tires really do need more traction - as on ice and snow - a good-fitting set of chains answers for us.

That paint trick would have saved me a ton of time and trouble trying to determine if my tire mark was exactly at the bottom or not. I find turfs to have more bite than most people would think in a variety of conditions. Obviously not mud but I usually avoid that.

Can I ask what the set of turfs cost you? Were they new and did you get them from a dealer?

Thanks,
Russ

They were roughly 1800 I dont know the exact price because it was all part of the package. I know its cheaper if you order as a complete set through sales than piece everything through the parts counter. Theres a part number for the set but I dont what it is.

Hi Turf King,

Thanks for the great info. I may have to check into it. Thanks again.

I have the same issue of small tires (11.2 x 24) on the rear of my L3200F (by the way, "F" means two-wheel drive). I understand that the Firestone 12.4 x 24 (lug tire) comes standard on the Kubota L3560, and some dealers swap them out for little or nothing (when new). I have 28 hours on my tractor and I'm looking for ideas on how to upgrade to the bigger tire size. I have a call in to two dealers, and I'm willing to pay the difference, or maybe buy the new ones outright. Other than the tires, I like the tractor.

Since you know that the lug pattern from the 3240 is the same as the 3200, and that the 3240 uses the 12.4 ag tires, you just need to find the actual measurements online. I have the 3240 turfs on my 3200 and have roughly 2.5 inches of fender clearance between the lower fender area and the tire tread(I can measure exactly if you need me too). If the 3240 ag tire is close in size, like within 3 inches maybe, to the 3240 turf than you should be good. I just scoured the net to find the info on my swap, my dealer didn't know squat as far as what fit what or actual sizes of stuff.

I may be interested in your 11.2 tires if you end up getting the larger size, my dealer keeps stringing me along on a trade for a set of new unused L3200 R4 rim/tire set that came on my tractor. If anyone needs R4s, let me know(maryland)

I take that back, its looks closer to 1.5 inches to the lower fender but I will measure just in case.

The new R4 wheel and tires looks way to small Regardless, I don't like the look of small tires in a big fender opening,

what you are experiencing is the shrinking phenomenon from dealer to field. what you lusted after @ the dealership among countless other shiny orange beasts, suddenly shrinks when delivered in your own field (kubota planned it this way) yes, we can try to expand our shortcomings with formulas & forums & add ons ....but...you will never be satisfied till you go bigger believe me, i've been there multiple times. sit back & take stock. what is gained what is lost in seeking the bigger monster? that monster just might be within... happened to me!!!!! wishing you all the best (& peace of mind)
