Help - want to switch tires/wheels to a bigger size

   / Help - want to switch tires/wheels to a bigger size #31
Hello I am wondering if anyone knows what size turf tires will work on my Kubota L3750? I have called many dealers and tire shops without luck, its like i have the only tractor that they cannot help me with and have no idea what tires will work. I can get my hands on a set of rears that are 21.5 x 16.1 on 18" rims with the same bolt pattern as i have now. Im trying to see if these will work and then find a set for he front that matches the RC. As i know they have to be in sync with each other. I have been told many things about the RC and not sure what to believe anymore and dont wanna mess my 4x4 up. I have AG tires and rims now but want to keep them for the field and have another complete set for the yard work. The ag sizes now are 14.9-24 rear and 9.5-16 front. I was also told i have to match the RC for the new turf tires to the same RC of the AG tires i have on it now, not sure the tractor has to have a specific RC just for that machine(pretty sure that guy didnt know what he was talking about). Any info on helping me wld be greatly appreciated. I have been researching and calling people for a month now.

Hello PrivateStock.. I can help with specific questions on matching ratios. This is a subject that has interested me for years - ever since I went from ags to turfs myself. Since then I've helped calculate a number of swaps and been been writing about the procedure for at least a dozen years.
This time I think I'll change methodology up a bit..... I used to ask for a lot of careful measurements and some research up front. Frankly, few people cared to do that. So I'm going to try an approach more more intuitive than analytical.

How is your tractor working now?.... With the existing Ag tires? What are you hoping to accomplish with the swap? BTW, what brand/model are the tires now? Are they what came on it? And real importantly: how does it shift into and especially out of 4wd? Hard to shift? Easy? Does the shifting change much when you're turning? How about with a load?

Wow i appreciate all of the responses to my post. I did not expect to have that many and info that actually helps me. Varmint those links were helpful for the tires and if they were just a touch closer i wld go take a look as i live in northern mi (just below the bridge). The one ad was the same exact rear tires i can get like a half mile from my house for 1100 and are loaded. In that ad i cld get all 4 for less than that (if only closer). I have found some closer just didnt know of they wld work proper for me. 94 Bullitt i have looked at that site many times but it does not say for 4x4 turf tire sizes and i was told that, that tractor did not come with turfs from the factory. So i did not want to trust the specs and was just confused all together. But thanks for the help. rScott My tractor works well rite now and thats why i am being cautious about diff tires since it cld do more damage than good. I am changing the tires out so i dont have a sod chunk cutter when i use my finish mower. Just dont need the ag for summer use(really nor for as much snow i use the blower for, ground and drive are level(no hills or anything so) turf will suffice) until i go out into my mucky fields to plant my foot plots and such for hunting. The water table is low where i live(pretty much ground level as there are a few ponds out back that fill to the top). The AG tires on it now are the factory specs for the originals weather they are the originals or been replaced idk and in my next post ill post what brand they are as i loaned it out for a week( you know the friend you didnt have till u bought a kubota) and dont member what they were. It shifts fine in and out of 4x4 flawless rite now. Seems to shift easy no matter what or how im usin the tractor. Even tho it is a work horse i take it easy with shifter. My main concern or ? is about the RC if as long as the front & rear match each other then i can put whatever tires i want on it correct?? If you can help reassure me on that ill take whatever measurements and whatnot to figure it out. I am obvisouly new to this forum and still figuring things out as i am to tractor tire sizes. I can work the **** outta one thats for sure but dont wanna break my baby. Thanks again for all of the help and plan to have pics and many more posts in the near future.

I don't blame you for wanting to be sure about the turf tires. For anyone following along, by RC we are referring to "Rolling Circumference". Rolling circumference is the critical dimension when we start matching front to rears on 4wd machines. It's a more tricky measurement than one might think. We can't just use pi times the tire diameter to get mathematical circumference. That's because tires are flexible enough to make the distance from the ground to the axle enough less than the distance from the axle to the top of the tire to make a difference. So the RC has to be determined on the ground for each type of tire. Most tire manufacturers do that and publish that spec, but not all.
The softer the tire, and the lower the pressure the more that rolling circumference will vary and the more attention that has to be paid to it.

Best way I know to measure rolling circumference is to put a blob of grease or chalk or whatever on the front tire treads and drive very slowly in 2wd in an absolutely straight line. do that for 100 feet or so and then get off and take an average of the measure the difference between the marks. There's your rolling circumference. Do it again for the rears.

Now divide the rear tire rc measurement by the front tire rc measurement and put that ratio in your notebook along with all your calculations. Put a star alongside that ration because it's golden. That's the ratio that you need to match in order to change to turfs....or to any other tread for that matter. Now you'll always know. BTW, that's how an engineer does it....

In a perfect world that front to rear tire ratio you've just calculated would also be the same as the front to rear internal gear ratios! But it isn't. In fact, if you take out all the gears and count the teeth and figure out the front to rear AXLE ratios you will find that the 4wd designer has altered his internal gear ratios so that the front tires are turning just a bit faster than the rears. The reason for this is so that in 4wd the front tires are always turning just a shade (about 5% is typical) faster than the rear tires. The machine is actually being pulled along from in front! It's done that way so that you will always have steering control. If it was the other way round - with the rears pushing faster than the fronts are pulling then the steering would be very strange and unpredictable.

Luck! rScotty

I put 3240 turfs on my 3200 and everything bolted up no problem. The ratio is near identical for both sets. I found the 3200 turfs to have an undersized width for the work we do. Not sure if the r4s will rub but the turfs worked perfect

I know this thread is old but out of curiosity, what are the sizes on those turf tires that you put on your l3200? I have a chance to get a set from a grand l40 series and just want to make sure they're the same. Also me how are they working out?
