I picked up my 3rd SCV kit today and foolishly thought I would get it knocked out in a couple of hours. I removed the right rear wheel and fender. The silly instructions say to remove the seat assembly and the black plastic panel that is under it and goes up on the insides of the fenders. I think to myself that is for those simpletons that can't manipulate levers and widgets as well as I can.

Well,,,,,,,,,, 5 hours later.....

I thought I could get the linkage on without removing the black plastic panel but I couldn't. So after fighting with the seat I go to take the plastic panel off and you have to remove the 3 pt lift handle's black rubber grip and on my tractor the shifter knobs in order to lift the panel off. How do you get that rubber grip off?

If I am not mistaken, I think the black plastic on the 3pt lift handle just pulls straight off. I don't know about the other knobs. That's a job. I had 3 SCV's put on last month by the dealer, 2 for the T-N-T and one extra set for any hydraulic implement I might run. I have had a lot of problems with the cylinders leaking down. I just got mine back from the dealer today after they replaced a valve inside the diverter box. It is now leaking down even faster. Well, I have to get caught up on some work and then it's back to the shop.

I believe the metal lever is some what barbed to grip the black handle after it is slid on. I have pulled on this thing and tried prying with a screwdriver without success. I don't want to tear it up getting it off, because I want it to stay put when I replace it.

From JD Parts, the 3PH lever knob is $8.50. Part # M48534. I realize that's not chicken feed but it may be cheap compared to the frustration you are getting.

But first, I would check with the local dealer's service tech to see how they get them off.

Good luck.

Brent,
Check the handle and see if it has a hole approx. 1/16" in the top. I have seen it posted here that if you take an air blow gun tip and blow compressed air in there, it will come off. I know all of my "knobs" have a hole in the top, and it was posted on the NH forum that that's what the hole was for.

Compressed air was exactly how I got mine off.
