Mahindra 5530
So I have been keeping an eye open for a used backhoe for my 5530. I couldn't afford to buy new with a backhoe included ($10k+).

I just stumbled upon a used Bradco 611 locally. Looks to be in great shape, and is at $2,500 obo. So before I commit to something like this, I had a couple of questions: First, this does seem to be a really good price, right??? Second, the 5530 comes with a 511, not a 611, will my tractor be able to handle the hydraulic requirements?? I have tried to find Bradco's website to view specs, but no luck. Third, how much is the subframe going to cost?? I assume this could be purcahsed directly through Mahindra. Fourth, am I missing any other add-ons my tractor will need other than subframe?

Regarding hydraulics, my understanding is that these types of BH units can run off of the tractors rear hydraulics ports. If you need more GPMs, a pump can be added to the rear PTO, but then you would need an external hyrdaulic fluid reservoir... Is this correct??

Sorry for all of the questions, but I am excited that I may be able to pick up a BH for my Mahindra for much, much less than a new unit!

Thanks,

Amstaff

Here is a link for some specs for the 611...

You should probably contact BradCo for your subframe. I think they make all the subframes for Mahindra, but am not sure. Good luck, Jerry.. [ and enjoy ] :)

Here is a link for some more info on BradCo and your 611 ...

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking this may just work.

Am I crazy, or does Bradco not have a website???

Also, any of the PA dealers on here have any insight on the availability of a subframe for this BH and my 5530?

Here is a link to BradCo info on the Paladin site.... BradCo is one of the Divisions of Paladin.... They sell stuff to distributors, who sell stuff on down the line to users like us. They don't really deal directly with the public, they mainly make stuff.... like fine backhoes and lots of money.... :)

I just bought a 7060 Shuttle with a 511 Backhoe. One piece of advice I recieved from this forum, and that I agree with, is that the 7060, with an 11 GPM hydraulic pump, is a little underpowered. I basically have to run the machine at 2500 RPMs to get the most out of the backhoe. I see that the 5030 has a slightly smaller pump at 10.6 GPM. For that price, you can't hardly go wrong. Not sure that I would mess around with a rear reservoir.

$2,500 is an incredible deal - I think that backhoe new will retail around $11,000. Just hope it is in good shape.

All you need is a single set of rear remotes.

Where in PA are you? If you're in Western, PA I would suggest getting in touch with RNF Sales and Service in Hadley (near Greenville). I was very pleased with them and would highly recommend them.

I assume that the previous owner isn't willing to part with his submount frame because he mounted a different backhoe?

Let us know how everything turns out.

Thanks for the info! I am in State College.

The seller is a home builder and bought the unit brand new. It has three buckets, two of which are barely used! He estimated that he used it about 20 hours per year since he bought it. Was mainly used to dig water/sewer/power lines and occasionaly footers. He had it mounted on a skidsteer so there is no subframe. He just picked up a mini excavator, so no need for this attachment. Also, he just had the backhoe service back in August (spent around $600.. couple pieces repaired/replaced, and has receipt). He buys all of his equipment from Messicks and has them do the service. Everything is supposed to be 100% and tight.

I do think I am on the low end (if not undersized @ 10.6) to run the 11-14gpm. My hope is that when using the 12" bucket I would barely (if at all) notice it is underpowered. Who knows, this may just be wishful thinking! I do plan on removing a handful of stumps and running power/water to a couple buildings, so I don't necessarily need to use the larger buckets.

At this point, I just need to confirm that the subframe for the 511 and 611 are the same for my 5530. If they are, I need to know how much $$$ for subframe, have someone order it, then have the rear remotes installed!!! Any help would be great!

The only real difference in a lower GPM will be speed.. If you're new to backhoes this may be good in the beginning, but over time you'll want to move faster.. The power should be the same.

The Bradco 611 was designed for skid steers. It is the same as the 511. Get the PTO powered pump and reservoir. My 6520, like the 7060, needs full RPM to make the backhoe dance with it's 11.2 gpm pump.
I do not agree with Wedge 40 stating you only will lose speed with lower gpm. Lower gpm has me dragging a full bucket up a hole. At high RPM, the boom will lift the full bucket out of a hole. Lower RPM is lower gpm. So if I need all of my 11.2 gpm at full RPM, you will regret trying to run your 611 off of 10.6 gpm pump.

Oh yeah............$2500 is an awesome price. Look around and get a Bradco thumb for it. The 511 comes with hyd. and manual thumb mounts on the dipperstick. So I figure the 611 does also.
hugs, Brandi
