John Deere 5055E
I have a 5055E with a loader (520M) that has a lifting capacity of over 3k pounds. I would like to lift at least a ton with my forks. My tires are not filled. How much ballast weight do I need on the rear (I have weights I can add on to my BB) in order to lift a ton with my forks?

Thanks.

Do you have an owners manual? Mine list the ballast required. Mines much smaller but the ballast is roughly equal to my lift capacity PLUS loaded tires or wheel weights.

I do. It's attached. I'm not sure how to read it. Does the number on the rear axle include or exclude the weight of the tractor on the rear axle? Also, why are there two options for cab tractors and only one for OOS?

I’d say maybe they are taking the cab into account?? If you have open station 2094 would be the weight on the 3 point hitch and 1213 would be either fluid in the tires or wheel weights. Maybe somebody will chime in and confirm that.

I read that as they want 3307lbs rear ballast, and the open station 3 point capacity is less than that. The cabbed tractor's additional weight allows for a lesser ballast amount, which can be handled entirely by the 3 point.

Thanks. That's a lot of ballast weight. I think i need some liquid or wheel weights!

I don’t know the exact numbers but mine calls for about 750 pounds of ballast. I have a ballast box with a bunch of random stuff like old brake discs but it’s probably about 500 pounds. It seems adequate to me but I also have the fluid in my tires. A lot of it depends if you are lifting heavy all the time.

The more weight you have on 3pt for counterbalance not only aids with tractor stability when lifting heavy loads with a frt end loader but it relieves a lot of stress on front axle & frt tires.
