Paul: Believe it or not, I have been through several dealers in two states - NC and VA. Unfortunately they are just not use to doing cumstom stuff on this size tractor. Because I am in farm country they think I need more tractor. But I am convinced I can get this done.

Adding a spool
drichards, go down to latter posts, especially #248211. It shows adding a spool(Could be a double one) after the FEL spools on an open center set-up on a Ford 1910. I think the basic plumbing would be the same. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
On the attachment you posted the 4 opening that you show are for the hoses to the two cylinders. There has to be two other openings, usually bigger, one for flow into the spool and one for flow out and back to the tractor. That valve looks like the same brand as mine in the Tree snipper post, but for 2 cylinders. PB or 'power beyond' is another way of saying outflow.
The first attachment that you show(it's JD green) maybe the priority valve for the power steering. The picture is in so tight I can't tell. Beyond that should be 2 spools that the front-end loader(FEL) joy stick works( I'm assuming you have a FEL) Pictures from a few feet back and then specific shots of the FEL valve plumbing would help us non JD 970 owners figue out how to connect into the circuit. I don't know, maybe this FEL double spool is so built-in that you can't tap in.

I live deep in farm country myself - actually farm for a living. Just got a blue compact tractor - had the dealer add a set of rear hyd ports before I picked it up. Was no problem, a dealer kit. I woulda thought it was a non-issue, all the major colors of these compacts are about the same. My kit was about $600, but I need it for farm use, just not an option. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The valves do appear to be of the same make. The valve I have has three ports (I guess that is the right word) besides the four outlets that go to the cylinders. One is labeled in, one out, and one PB. I understand what you are saying about having to have one in and one out but am confused about the one labeled PB. In trying to understand the "flow" of things, I do not know where a third line would go.

In other words, if I install the power beyond kit I will have the in and out. Any idea what the third port is about?

Sorry I have not posted some better pictures, we have had six days of dry weather and the phone is ringing off the hook /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and I have not stopped working since /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. I am definately tired of having to disconnect and connect my dump on the front end loader to use the attachment.

Which brings up another point. While I was trying to get all of the flow and valve stuff figured out, I thought I would do a quick fix for the mean time. My idea was to have two hoses made and run them from the two ports for the dump opperation of the FEL. Sounds like a simple process to accomplish right? Wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif This first place I went had everything but the fittings that plugged into the FEL quick disconnects. The second place had neither. The third place said yes, made the hoses, and then realized everything worked except the plugs to the loader ports.

With a longer trip to the fourth place I found the fittings I needed but they would not fit the threads on the newly made hoses. Purchased two reducers and headed home to put it all together. I ran the hoses, tighted everything up and fired her up. The implement worked like it was suppose to but the reducers were leaking like crazy. Come to find out the guy sold me the wrong ones.

So, long story short, I spent the better part of a day and $120+ on a short term quick fix. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But being able to work the rake over the last few days has more than paid for it. I just wish experience was not so expensive.

I have had enough of these days lately to start my own forum - My stupid theories and bad days /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for your help, Donnie

Okay, I feel pretty stupid right now. I just realized that although this is a project to me, this is not a "tractor project" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif How would one go about moving this discussion to the correct place?

I’ll give this a try.

“In” is pressure.

“Out” is return to the tank or on most tractors the transmission. This is not a pressure line. It is a drain line when using Power Beyond.

“PB” is pressure to the next valve in the circuit.

To hookup another valve:

Remove the PB hose on the original valve. Connect it to the PB port of the new valve.

Connect a nose from the PB of the original valve to the IN port of the new valve.

Put a Tee fitting on the OUT port of old valve. Connect a hose to the OUT port of the new valve and connect it to the tee fitting.

This should give you the proper operation of this valve.

If I remember there may be a concern about pressure settings.

Some of the more expert Hydraulic fellows may have better information.

DO NOT connect this way! The Power Beyond port on a valve is the HIGH pressure carryover port used to power down stream valves.

The PB from valve #1 supplies the high pressure fluid to the IN port on the next down stream valve. The OUTs can be T-ed together to return to the tank.

I thought I was saying the same thing as you have said. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

NO PROBLEM! I just thought the Hydraulic Smarties might be more likely to see it there...

A moderator can move a thread, often they'll do it on their own, but if you DO want to, just fire one a note...

Not to confuse things but I think it depends on which end of the PB hose you are using. Ron I think is correct because he is disconnecting it from the Valve end NOT the other end...Then he is saying to run a new hose from the Original PB port to the in of the new valve, and then connect the original PB hose from the first valve to the PB port on the second valve. Hope this does not make it more confusing /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
