An alternate idea for this end (and it may be stupid) was to run a 2x6 or 2x8 from the A-frame to an adjacent tree. I don't know how long it would take before the growth of the tree would adversely affect the swingset. I imagine my daughter using this for no more than 3 years.

The drawing shows it coming from the A-frame, but as I'm typing this, I just thought maybe a joist hanger on the end of the 4x6 beam would allow me to do the same thing. Again, these ideas may be a little wacky.

Finally, here's my concern about plywood. First, I can't envision how I could get the plywood attached to both the A-frame legs and the side of the beam as the legs are at an angle.

Furthermore, I think those green steel angle brackets that you see in the photos wouold get in the way.

The drawing shows how I'm seeing this. Obviously, if I am misunderstanding you, please tell me.

Again, thanks for the help.

bmac,

If you put enough lumber on it, you will stiffin it up. I'm concerned that you might end up creating a huge structure when an easier fix might be all you need.

Bmac:

Sorry I didn't post the pictures yet, but been haven't been outside much to take the picture.
Anyway, another functional idea might be to build a small platform on the end without the cantilever. I have a 4' X 4' platform on my little swingset and it really stiffened it up a lot. I have it bolted with carriage bolts into the legs. of the swing set. You could make it about 4 or 5 foot off the ground. Use a ladder, steps, or ramp (that is how I went) for access and then I added a slide which she may be too old for. But the functional part as she gets older would be a place for her to hang outside and read a book or something. With all those trees around it seems like the perfect place for reading a good book. Instead of a slide just add a wooden bench to set on or something similar. With that platform setting on four vertical 4X4's that should really tighten it up. I didn't realize how tight it made it until I took mine apart to move it and the swing set was quite wobbly.
